Rapid and accurate diagnosis of infectious diseases in children is important for developing an effective treatment and management strategy. However, the current diagnosis of infectious agents mainly depends on culture and molecular testing. Both of the methods either has long turnaround times or narrow detection range. Metagenome next generation sequencing (mNGS) has been applied to the diagnosis of central nervous system infection, lower respiratory tract infection and sepsis, which showed high positive rate, short turnaround time. However, there is currently no assessment of the diagnostic efficacy of mNGS in children infectious diseases. This study used the DNA extraction and library construction technology developed for children's low volume clinical samples to assess the sensitivity and specificity of mNGS in the diagnosis of infectious diseases, and the treatment outcome based on mNGS test results.
Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) is an effective or even the only way to cure blood malignant diseases. Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection is a serious early complication of allo-HSCT. Worldwide, 95% of adults are infected with Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV). These infections may cause different diseases. In most cases, EBV infection is asymptomatic because of a highly effective host immune response. Some individuals develop infectious mononucleosis (a self-limiting lymphoproliferative disorder in adolescents and young adults that is considered to be the primary infection), while others develop chronic fatigue syndrome, EBV-associated lymphoid, or epithelial malignancies. Today, there is no available treatment to treat and destroy EBV. The treatment is essentially symptomatic (treatment of the symptoms and not of the virus itself) with analgesics for pain for example. The studied drugs are 2LEBV® and 2LXFS®, from Labo'Life company, and the treatment schema is the same for the two drugs: it consists in taking the content of one capsule per day, sequentially, according to capsules' numerical order: 1 through 10. When capsule number 10 is taken, capsule 1 of the next blister should be taken on the next day to continue the treatment. The duration of treatment will be of 6 months of continuous intake of the content of 1 capsule/day. The aim of this study is to provide additional information on effectiveness on the 2LEBV® and 2LXFS®in the treatment of EBV chronic and acute infections, and in particular to demonstrate their effectiveness versus placebo in the reduction of asthenia and other symptoms in EBV infection.
The objectives are to evaluate whether variations in vaginal and/or urinary and/or fecal microbiome predispose postmenopausal women to recurrent cystitis. This will be explored using comparison of microbiome profiles between those with recurrent UTI compared to age-matched women without recurrent UTI.
This is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial to determine the optimal dose and safety of oral alanyl-glutamine between 4, 24, and 44 g doses administered for 10 days with standard therapy among first time incident cases of uncomplicated C. difficile infection (CDI) in hospitalized, or outpatient, persons aged 18 or older. Our hypothesis is that alanyl-glutamine supplementation will decrease recurrence and mortality from CDI and these outcomes will be associated with improvement of inflammatory markers and restoration of intestinal microbiota function.
It is not known in the literature how much sonication affects the patient's treatment. Another important issue is that the place of this method in diagnosis is not clear. The aim of this study is to contribute to the literature on this issue and to determine the sensitivity and specificity of sonication prospectively using the new definition and effect of sonication on the treatment strategy in terms of infection in patients with PJI.
The consortium will develop a new in vitro diagnostic (IVD) test to screen donated blood for bloodborne infectious pathogens, saving blood banks time and costs required for analysis of mandatory pathogens. The IVD test is a multiplex immunoassay that simultaneously screens for six bloodborne infectious diseases per blood sample. In this project, a mix of diagnostic protein markers will be developed and validated to lowdown an IVD test ready for commercial scale-up and CE-IVD certification.

Vaginal infection in early pregnancy is associated with an increased risk of spontaneous preterm delivery and late miscarriage. Most studies presume that vaginal infections are responsible for up to 40% of preterm birth. Although the causative microorganisms of vaginal infections are manifold, the three pathogens most commonly associated with vaginal infections are Gardnerella vaginalis, Candida albicans and Trichomonas vaginalis. The aim of this prospective study is the validation of the point-of-care tests OSOM BVBLUE for bacterial vaginosis and SavvyCheck Vaginal Yeast Test for candidosis in comparison to Gram stain.
