Endocuff for Surveillance of Serrated Polyposis Syndrome

Serrated Polyposis Syndrome (SPS) is a high-risk condition for colorectal cancer (CRC). SPS patients have a cumulative CRC risk of 1.9% in 5 years despite a strict endoscopic surveillance in specialized centers. Proximal serrated lesions are endoscopically challenging to detect due to their unremarkable morphology. Endocuff is a novel device comprised of a cap with a row of finger-like projections with a unique dynamic shape that help to flatten mucosal folds during withdrawal of the instrument in order to improve detection of lesions. Recent studies have reported an increase of detection rate and mean per patient of adenomas with Endocuff-assisted Colonoscopy compared with Standard Colonoscopy. The purpose of this study is to assess the usefulness of Endocuff-assisted Colonoscopy to detect serrated lesions in SPS patients undergoing surveillance compared to Standard Colonoscopy in a randomized fashion

Reducing Colorectal Cancer Death Through Mailed Outreach Screening

The main study aim is to develop, implement and disseminate a pilot population-based mailed FIT outreach screening program in the Philadelphia VA Medical Center that does not rely on having an office visit, by conducting a proof-of-concept 3-arm parallel-design pragmatic randomized trial to (1) Compare the effects of usual care (UC), screening invitation + reminder (invitation-reminder), or screening invitation + mailed FIT kit + reminder (mailed-FIT); (2) Explore whether the FIT completion rate varies by age or race/ethnicity; and (3) Explore barriers to use of mailed outreach screening for Veterans.

A Study of Capecitabine (Xeloda) in the Adjuvant Treatment of Participants With Resected Colon Cancer

This study will evaluate the safety and tolerability of capecitabine (Xeloda) in participants who have undergone surgery for colon cancer. Adjuvant HIPEC to Prevent Colorectal Peritoneal Metastases in High-risk Patients

The prognosis of peritoneal metastases from colorectal cancer has recently improved with cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC). Although outcomes are further improved when early stage peritoneal metastases are treated, adjuvant HIPEC has not yet been thoroughly addressed. This prospective pilot study assessed feasibility, safety and efficacy of HIPEC performed simultaneously with primary curative surgery in colorectal cancer patients with primary tumor-related risk-factors for the development of metachronous peritoneal metastases.

Uptake to Colorectal Cancer Screening in Familial-risk Population

This is a multicenter, controlled, randomized phase III study to compare participation rate with two screening rounds of fecal occult blood test (FIT) versus one-time screening colonoscopy in first degree relatives (FDR) of patients diagnosed of colorectal cancer (CRC). The hypothesis of the study is that annual FIT uptake and colonoscopy when a positive test is higher than that of straightforward colonoscopy. Assuming an uptake of 0.50 for colonoscopy and 0.60 for FIT, a Type I error (alpha) of 5% and a power of 90%, 538 FDRs will be necessary to include in each group.
