This trial tests new methods and materials for the real-time chemotherapy-associated side effects monitoring support system (RT-CAMSS) in patients with gastrointestinal cancers undergoing chemotherapy. RT-CAMSS is a monitoring support system that provides patients with evidence-based information and side-effect management and coping skills, emotional support and validation, and proactive care via text messages and questionnaires as they undergo chemotherapy.

Does Omission of NSAIDs After Colorectal Cancer Operation Affect the Consumption of Opioids?

Patients undergoing an operation for colorectal cancer are normally treated with non-steroid-anti-inflammatory-drugs (NSAIDs) e.g. ibuprofen as pain medication after the operation. It is well known that NSAIDs can be harmful to kidney-and heart patients and some studies also have shown an increased risc of surgical complications after treatment with NSAIDs. On the other hand recent studies have found a preventive effect of NSAIDs on colorectal cancer recurrence thus leaving the colorectal surgeon in doubt whether NSAIDs are beneficial or harmful to colorectal cancer patients. In the department of colorectal cancer surgery at Zealand University Hospital it was decided to leave out NSAIDs from the 1st of april 2016. This study will investigate if there is a change in consumption of opioids before and after omission of NSAIDs. This will be an important finding because opioids also have harmful side-effects as well as a risk of addiction. The investigators will also compare the blood samples and see if there is signs of impaired renal and cardiac function in the group that was treated with NSAIDs. Finally the long term outcomes will be investigated such as cancer recurrence and death in the two groups.

Cancer Communication Within Hispanic Social Networks

This trial examines cancer communication within Hispanic social networks. Hispanics have the lowest colorectal cancer screening rate of any major ethnic group and health interventions are crucially needed among Hispanics. Patient decision aids are health communication interventions designed to provide patients with targeted health information and have shown to improve colorectal cancer screening rates among Hispanics. The goal of this study is to investigate, in a sample of Hispanics, how a colorectal cancer decision aid aimed at increasing individuals' colorectal cancer screening behavior has effects on their alters' intention to get screened for colorectal cancer.

Surgery is the main treatment modality for CRC, but is associated with increased risk of postoperative morbidity, disability and loss of health related quality of life (HRQL).Frailty is an age related state of functional decline and considered to be an important risk factor for adverse outcome in geriatric oncology.Risk models for adverse outcome may be used for treatment decisions in the elderly, but are often not designed to predict patient related outcome measures and do not include frailty characteristics.

This work is an original clinical research article describing the relationship between wait list tome for colorectal cancer patients and long-term survival. These findings are particularly relevant for management of surgical wait lists during crisis such as the Covid-19 pandemic. The lack of a relationship between wait list time and disease free survival and tendency for improved survival in the 4-6 week imply some colorectal cancer operations can be safely delayed during times of limited resources.

Although, the dramatic increase in efficacy, reduction of mortality, and improvements in survival by the use of standard doses of chemotherapy, some CRC patients suffer from severe toxicities besides disease progression. Use of chemotherapy less than the maximum tolerated dose, with no prolonged drug free breaks incapacitates the cells to engage in progression mechanisms, suggesting that it could be a better alternative to standard dose therapy with better toxicity profile
