Filter by:This study will assess the efficacy and safety of treatment with the combination Avastin (bevacizumab) 5mg/kg iv every 2 weeks, Xeloda (capecitabine) 1000 mg po b.i.d. on Days 1-14 of every 28-day cycle and oxaliplatin 40mg/m2 iv weekly in patients with inoperable locally advanced or metastatic colorectal cancer. The anticipated time on study treatment is until disease progression.
The investigators hypothesize that Ca2+/MG2+ infusions will not have a significant effect on oxaliplatin pharmacokinetics.
The investigators hypothesize that glutamine significantly reduces the incidence and severity of peripheral neuropathy in patients receiving oxaliplatin for metastatic colorectal cancer, decreases the need for dose reduction of oxaliplatin, and it does not impair oxaliplatin efficacy or pharmacokinetics.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the therapeutic effect and the safety of high-dose vitamin D supplementation in metastatic colorectal cancer patients. We propose to supplement metastatic (stage 4) colorectal cancer patients with oral doses of vitamin D to raise serum 25-hydroxy-vitamin D [25(OH)D] levels to the high normal range of 200-250 nmol/L. The primary objective of this study is to evaluate the metabolic consequences, including tolerability and toxicity, of prolonged, high-dose physiological vitamin D in patients with colorectal cancer. The secondary objective is to evaluate patient survival with regards to high-dose vitamin D supplementation. Hypothesis: Whereas low doses of vitamin D reportedly play a significant role in prevention of colorectal cancers, do much larger (pharmacological) doses of vitamin D have a significant therapeutic effect against the same kind of cancer?
PURPOSE: This randomized phase III trial is studying giving oxaliplatin, leucovorin calcium, and fluorouracil together to compare how well they work when given together with or without celecoxib in treating patients with stage III colon cancer previously treated with surgery. RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as oxaliplatin, leucovorin calcium, and fluorouracil, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Celecoxib may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. It is not yet known whether giving oxaliplatin, leucovorin calcium, and fluorouracil is more effective with or without celecoxib in treating colon cancer.
To evaluate whether a combination regimen of pentoxifylline, ursodeoxycholic acid and enoxaparin provides a protective effect on the liver parenchyma after high dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy.
This exploratory, open label study will assess the the dose-effect relationship, efficacy and safety of RO5323441 in patients with metastatic treatment-refractory colorectal or ovarian cancer. Cohorts of patients will receive doses of intravenous RO5323441 in the range of 25mg to 3g every 1 or 2 weeks and will undergo serial dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) assessments. In the absence of disease progression and unacceptable toxicity, patients may continue to receive their maximum dose of RO5323441 for a core treatment phase of up to a total of 6 months. Treatment with RO5323441 can be extended at the investigator's discretion until disease progression or unacceptable toxicity occurs. Target sample size is <100.
This is an intervention study to increase colorectal cancer screening and physical activity in members of African-American churches who are 50 years old and older. The control arm receives the Body & Soul program, a program to increase fruit and vegetable intake. The investigators hypothesize that those receiving the intervention, which includes four tailored newsletters and peer counseling, will be more likely to be screened if not up-to-date, and more likely to increase physical activity if screening was up-to-date at baseline, than controls.
This study will assess the safety of panitumumab, irinotecan and everolimus when given in combination to treat advanced colorectal cancer
This study will evaluate the efficacy and safety of a first-line regimen of Avastin and Xelox (Xeloda + Eloxatin) followed by Avastin and Tarceva, in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer. Patients will receive 6 x 21 day cycles of treatment with Avastin (7.5mg/kg iv on day 1), Xeloda (1000mg/m2 po twice daily on days 1 to 14) and Eloxatin (130mg/m2 iv on day 1). Patients free of disease progression will then continue with Avastin (7.5mg/kg iv once every 3 weeks) and Tarceva (150mg po daily). The anticipated time on study treatment is until disease progression, and the target sample size is <100 individuals.
