Preschool children aged 3-5 years old from municipal kindergartens in Thessaloniki participated in this study. The Little DCDQ questionnaire and the BOT-2 (Bruininks-Oseretsky Test of Motor Proficiency) were used for assessment.

Equal Oral Health in Children: The Hageby-model

Pregnant women - living in thecatchment area of a public dental clinic with known higher caries experience and generally lower socioeconomical status than at other dental clinics in the Region - are recruited for the study. Repeated information and surveys of dental knowledge, dental habits and medical conditions etc. is sample. Before birth, one month after birth, and 12 and 18 months after birth of the Child, the mother repeatedly answers questionnaires and recieves information about dental care. At 18 months,and at the 3- and 6-year dental examinations the caries experience dmft/deft is registered. All Children and accompanying parent receives an individual caries preventive program between the examinations. Evaluation will be focused on possible caries sreduction and Health econimic aspects of the interventions.

Introduction: Investigating the interrelationship between physical condition, non-invasive health markers and executive function in preschoolers, is based on the current health and cognitive development situation of this population, especially the low socioeconomic level. National figures estimate that the prevalence of overweight / obesity in the preschool population reaches 53.6%, exposing not only the development of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, but also affect cognitive potential. Physical condition is a powerful health marker independent of nutritional status. Its evaluation together with the evaluation of non-invasive health markers and executive function in preschoolers inside educational establishments is essential to investigate alterations at an early age that could be prevented with adequate interventions in schools. However, to achieve this, valid, reliable and comparable tools are needed internationally. Objective: to analyze the factors that affect the configuration of a diagnostic model which includes the physical fitness and physical activity levels, motor development, non-invasive risk factors and neuropsychological development in preschoolers. Methods: Observational study, case only, cross sectional. Enrollment 544 preschool child 4 to 5 years old. Primary Outcome is Physical fitness to "Prefit Battery", Secondary outcome non-invasive risk factors (Blood pressure, BMI, Waist circumference, neck circumference) Physical activity, Motor skills and Neuropsychological development. expected results: Determine the degree of association of physical fitness with non-invasive risk factors and neuropsychological development in preschoolers, determine the influence that physical activity level and motor development have on physical fitness and development a diagnostic model which includes the physical fitness and physical activity levels, motor development, non-invasive risk factors and neuropsychological development in Chilean preschoolers.

Effect of Power Wheelchairs on the Development and Function of Young Children With Severe Physical Disabilities

Self-produced locomotion often is limited in children with cerebral palsy and other conditions that cause severe motor impairments. As a result, these children may be at risk for secondary impairments in spatial cognition, communication, social development, and other domains influenced by independent mobility. To compensate, power mobility has increasingly been advocated for young children with severe motor impairments. The study hypotheses were: 1. Children with severe disabilities that prevent independent locomotion who learn to use power mobility devices when they are 14- to 30-months-of-age will have greater communication, social, and cognitive development over a 12-month period, and will demonstrate more competent coping skills than children with the same characteristics who do not use power mobility. 2. Parents of children who use power mobility will view it as a positive influence on their children's lives, and will perceive their children's development to be more mature than the parents of children who do not use power mobility will perceive their children's development.

Prevention Through Activity in Kindergarten Trial

Objectives: The PAKT project shall evaluate the effects of an exercise intervention in kindergarten combined with an educational training of parents and kindergarten teachers on behavior and health status of children. Study design: Baseline measurements were performed on more than 700 kindergarten children aged 43-67 months in May to July 2007. The kindergartens are located in and around Wuerzburg in Germany. Kindergartens were then randomized in an intervention (21 kindergartens) and a control (20 kindergartens) group. The intervention group offers a daily exercise class lasting at least 30 min. Parents and teachers of the children in the intervention program receive educational training. In addition, the children have activity homework involving the entire family. The control kindergartens keep their routine. Follow-up measurements of physical activity (actigraph), motor skills, body mass index, skinfold thickness, and blood pressure take place in January/February 2008, June/July 2008, and September/October 2008. The number of accidents in and outside of the kindergartens and the number of children missing the kindergarten due to infections are monitored continuously. Use of results: If the PAKT program should proof effective, the results will be published in scientific journals and made public using the press. With the help of the GEK, the program will then be implemented nationwide in kindergartens.
