Filter by:This is a phase II study of an investigational agent, brivanib, in patients with refractory metastatic renal cell carcinoma. This study will evaluate the safety and effectiveness of brivanib in renal cell carcinoma, and explore the activity of this drug in this population to determine whether imaging and molecular features of the tumors can be used to predict response. Approximately 30 people with advanced kidney cancer will be enrolled on this study at the University of Pennsylvania.
This study will evaluate if there is a difference in survival between elective treatment of draining lymph nodes vs. clinical nodal observation in patients undergoing Mohs surgery for high risk skin squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck who have a normal lymph node exam. Each treatment arm is accepted as a current standard of care, and the objective is to compare outcomes between the two arms.
This phase I clinical trial is studying the side effects and the best dose of vorinostat when given together with paclitaxel and carboplatin in treating patients with metastatic or recurrent solid tumors and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. Vorinostat may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as paclitaxel and carboplatin, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Giving vorinostat together with paclitaxel and carboplatin may kill more tumor cells. NOTE: An administrative decision was made by NCI to halt further study of vorinostat in this specific patient population as of February 1, 2013. No patients remain on vorinostat. Going forward this study will determine the safety and tolerability of the paclitaxel and carboplatin combination in this patient population.
Modification of the EGF signalling pathway and / or HER 2, by Lapatinib in bladder cancer.
This phase II trial is studying how well MK2206 works in treating patients with advanced liver cancer that did not respond to previous therapy. MK2206 may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth.
This randomized phase II trial studies the side effects and how well Akt inhibitor MK2206 or everolimus works in treating patients with kidney cancer that does not respond to treatment. Akt inhibitor MK2206 and everolimus may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. Everolimus may also stop the growth of kidney cancer by blocking blood flow to the tumor. It is not yet known whether Akt inhibitor MK2206 or everolimus is more effective in treating kidney cancer.

Standard of care for treatment of nasopharyngeal carcinoma is chemoradiation with concurrent cisplatin. Addition of a second agent, cetuximab, which targets nasopharyngeal carcinoma cells with high EGFR protein expression, may enhance the effectiveness of radiation and result in better tumour control. This study investigates the addition of 2 cycles of cisplatin/5FU chemotherapy with cetuximab, followed by cisplatin and cetuximab concurrent with radiation, for treatment of locally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
In this research study, the investigators are studying whether a reduced dose of radiation when given with standard doses of chemotherapy can reduce side effects without compromising control of the cancer. An approved treatment for squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck is initial chemotherapy followed by radiation and chemotherapy together. This treatment is effective but has many immediate and long-term side effects. People who have squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (SSCHN) that is related to an infection by the human papillomavirus (HPV) have been shown to have a high response to this treatment along with a high cure rate. The investigators think that by reducing the intensity of this treatment, they may be able to reduce immediate and long-term side effects which may lead to long term improvements in quality of life and function.
This is Phase I, open-label and dose escalation study to evaluate the safety and tolerability of AZD1480(JAK2 inhibitor) in Asian patients with advanced solid tumors (Part A and C) and in patients with advanced HCC (Part B) in the escalation phase, EGFR or ROS mutant NSCLC and non-smokers with lung metastasis and gastric cancer in the expansion phase and to evaluate daily and BID dosing.
