Filter by:Recent studies indicate that liver cancer cells possess a receptor called the GABA-B receptor that when activated, inhibits the spread of cancer cells in test tubes. One of the drugs that activate these receptors is Baclofen, an agent that was originally developed to treat patients with various neurologic disorders. In this study, patients with recently identified liver cancer will be treated with Baclofen in an attempt to prevent or delay spread of the cancer beyond the liver. The time it takes for liver cancer to spread in the patients will be compared to the results obtained from patients enrolled in previous studies where Baclofen was not used.
This research study is testing a new treatment of cancer of the head and neck. Purpose This research study is being done to: 1. Test the safety of the experimental cancer vaccine made of dendritic cells. An experimental vaccine is one that is not approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). 2. To learn what effects (good and bad) the vaccine will have on you and your head and neck cancer. 3. To learn if the vaccine will stimulate your body's white blood cells, which are part of your immune system (your body's natural defense system).
This is a supplemental study designed to evaluate the effect of bevacizumab on QTc interval in cancer patients. Patients who have consented to participate in selected randomized controlled bevacizumab clinical trials will be invited to participate in this study.
The primary objective of this study is to estimate the time to progressive disease for patients with advanced hepatocellular cancer who receive LY2181308.
This study seeks to test the Efficacy in terms of rates of disease response in metastatic nasopharyngeal carcinoma of the standard dose of velcade 1.3 mg/m2 given at the day 1,4,8,and 11 every 21 days schedule. The study uses a Simons 2 stage design and will enroll between 15-25 patients. Secondary endpoints studied include Pharmacokinetics, toxicities, EBV viral load and molecular characterization of EBV in plasma.
The aim of the study is to determine if Iressa added to radiotherapy is effective and safe in shrinking tumour dimensions.
The proposed study will test the safety and efficacy of sodium valproate in the induction of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) lytic cycle antigen expression in tumor tissue of patients undergoing primary therapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Up to 20 patients will be given valproic acid for 2 weeks. The primary surrogate endpoint for efficacy will be expression of EBV lytic antigens by immunohistochemistry in tumor tissue. Biopsies of primary tumor will be taken after 2 weeks with achievement of a therapeutic concentration of valproate. Expression of immunodominant EBV latency antigens in tumor tissue, EBV viral load by real time PCR, and valproate levels will be measured. Adverse events associated with valproate in NPC patients will be described.
-Overall study design: A randomized Phase II study in patients with metastatic RCC Patients will receive chemotherapy with gemcitabine and 5-FU. Prior to each chemotherapy the patient will receive a combination of Leukine alone (study cohort 1) or Leukine-dexamethasone (study cohort 2). -Chemotherapy: gemcitabine 1.0 g/m2 intravenously (infused in the vein)over 30 minutes on Days 7 and 21, Folinic acid 200 mg/m2 on Days 7-8 and 21-22, then 5-FU 400 mg/m2, intravenously (infused in the vein) over 30 minutes followed by 5-FU 600 mg/m2 intravenously (infused in the vein) over 24 hours. •Study drugs: - Cohort 1, Leukine, 250 ug/m2 daily (8 am) subcutaneously (under the skin) on days 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 15, 16, 17, 18, and 19; - Cohort 2, Leukine, 250 ug/m2 daily (8 am) subcutaneously (under the skin)on days 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 15, 16, 17, 18, and 19 and dexamethasone 12 mg every 12 hours (8 am and 8 pm) orally (by mouth) on days 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 17, 18, 19, 20, and 21.
Primary Objective: To study if lycopene can improve the biomarker status of urothelial cells in patients with uremia-associated urothelial carcinoma. Secondary Objective: To evaluate the general safety and tolerability of oral lycopene 30 mg per day for 12 weeks in uremic patients.
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as gemcitabine, docetaxel, and capecitabine, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Giving more than one drug (combination chemotherapy) may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying how well giving gemcitabine together with docetaxel and capecitabine works in treating patients with cancer of unknown primary origin.
