Filter by:The purpose of this study is to show the tumor free long term survival of patients with isolated non-resectable liver metastases of neuroendocrine tumors after neo-adjuvant radio receptor treatment and following liver transplantation.
RAD001 continues to be investigated as an anticancer agent on new indications such as neuroendocrine tumors (incl. carcinoid), breast cancer, liver cancer, gastric cancer and lymphoma based on its potential to act: - directly on the tumor cells by inhibiting tumor cell growth and proliferation - indirectly by inhibiting angiogenesis leading to reduced tumor vascularity (via potent inhibition of tumor cell HIF-1 activity and VEGF production and VEGF-induced proliferation of endothelial cells) A role for RAD001 in combination with Sandostatin LAR® Depot in the treatment of advanced carcinoid tumor is suggested by data on the regulatory role of mTOR in cell growth and protein translation and the finding that somatostatin-induced growth arrest is mediated in part by inhibition of the PI3K pathway (Charland, et al. 2001). The present study is designed to collect safety/tolerability data and evidences for efficacy of RAD001 in the medically highly unmet indication of advanced pulmonary neuroendocrine tumor in Chinese patients.
The primary hypothesis of this study is that panitumumab, an inhibitor of the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), is an effective treatment for carcinoid syndrome in people who fail or do not adequately respond to octreotide or other supportive therapies.
The purpose of this study is to test a new drug called MK-2206. This study is a phase II study. In cancer studies, a phase II study is to find out what effects, good and/or bad, a new treatment has against a certain type of cancer. MK-2206 is an oral medication known as a targeted therapy. By attaching to the target, we hope that MK-2206 may stop the cancer cells from further growth and dividing. This study will help find out if MK-2206 is a helpful drug when taken in patients with neuroendocrine tumor.
The goal of this clinical research study is to study the safety of giving larger daily doses of proton radiation therapy than the standard dose levels given to treat lung cancer. Researchers want to find the highest daily dose of proton radiation that can be given without having to stop therapy due to side effects.
A research study of liver perfusion (how blood flows to the liver over time). We hope to learn whether perfusion characteristics of liver masses may be predictive of response to treatment and whether liver perfusion characteristics can be used to follow response to treatment.
RATIONALE: Temsirolimus may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as vinorelbine ditartrate, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Giving temsirolimus together with vinorelbine ditartrate may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: This phase I trial is studying the side effects and best dose of giving temsirolimus and vinorelbine ditartrate together in treating patients with unresectable or metastatic solid tumors.
- According to Martin F et al, AKT is highly phosphorylated in phenochromocytoma but not in benign adrenocortical tumors. - In nonfunctioning carcinoid, the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway is activated. - Although mTOR is clearly an attractive therapeutic target in tumor, no clinical study on mTOR inhibition by RAD001 have been conducted in pheochromocytoma or extra-adrenal paraganglioma or non-functioning carcinoid. - So we design this phase II study of RAD001 in pheochromocytoma or extra-adrenal paraganglioma or non-functioning carcinoid to evaluate the efficacy of RAD001 in this orphan disease.
We hope to determine the importance of different genes (including B receptors) in anthracycline-induced cardiomyopathy. This has important benefits to patients exposed to anthracyclines, as this could help determine whether certain individuals have increased susceptibility to cardiac injury.
