Filter by:The aim of this project is to develop a model for return to work (RTW) for patients sick listed due to stress related mental disorders, which takes into account each patient's specific situation; includes the workplace, and is well adapted to the Swedish primary care setting. In late 2016, general practitioners (GPs) and rehabilitation coordinators at both public and private primary care centers will be offered a one-day training about work and workability for patients with stress related mental disorders. Also, the participants will be trained in a specific method that includes the patient's employer early in the rehabilitation process The project has a quasi-experimental and longitudinal design. The intervention will be conducted on 15 different primary care centers, which will be matched with a comparison group. Return to work for 500 patients will be analyzed using registry data, 6, 12 and 18 months after sick-listing. The hypothesis is that patients who are sick-listed at primary care centers that completely or partially implemented the specific method on average will return earlier to work than patients sick-listed at primary care centers that did not implement the method. Alongside studying if the intervention has an effect on the patients' RTW over time, the investigators aim to investigate the mechanisms explaining the effects and the individual and organizational level (primary care units) circumstances necessary for these mechanisms to be triggered. To gain deeper knowledge about mechanisms and context, the investigators will conduct interviews with the treatment staff and collect registry data about the primary care units.
Due to their difficult and stressful work surgeons are under continuous physical and mental stress exposing them to increased risk for burnout and lack of professionalism. The present intervention focuses on providing time and a safe space to debrief and explore personal and group experiences and dilemmas, as well as acquire coping skills related to burnout, communication and professionalism.
The purpose of the current study is to test the efficacy of two brief, behavioral interventions intended to improve burnout among doctoral-level graduate students (n = 102). Specifically, individuals will be randomly assigned to one of three intervention conditions: 1) Reward: a brief intervention to help participants increase engagement in healthy and rewarding values-driven behaviors, 2) Approach: a brief intervention to help participants identify and decrease emotion-driven avoidance of important goals, or 3) Control: a control condition that involves monitoring only. Multilevel modeling will be used to assess changes in burnout, mood, and stress, following the interventions, controlling for participants' individual baseline levels of these variables.
The study compares the effect of a group-based activity with an individual work-out activity on work participation.
Background: Over 39% of approximately 3,000 doctors (The British Medical Association quarterly survey, 2015) admitted to frequently feeling drained, exhausted, overloaded, tired, low and lacking energy. Such occupational distress may link to psychological and physical difficulties in doctors and have negative outcomes for organization and patients. The aim of the current study is to investigate the impact of an induction programme on occupational distress of doctors. Methods/design: Doctors will be invited to take part in an online research. Participants will be randomly assigned to the experimental and control groups. Participants in the experimental groups will complete one of the induction topics (about stress at work). Before and after an induction programme participants will be asked to fill in an online survey about their current occupational distress and organizational well-being. Discussion: The investigators expect that doctors' psychological, physiological and organizational well-being will improve after an induction programme which should serve as a resource for better doctor's own health understanding.
The purpose of this study is to prevent burnout and offer the hospital staff a space for processing the emotional experiences.
Prior research has demonstrated that during residency years, in particular training to obtain a medical specialty, work burnout is a very prevalent problem. Work burnout is defined as a syndrome of dysfunction in three domains, emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and a reduced sense of personal accomplishment. (Maslach et. al., 1981). Often, burnout has been associated with poor sleep quality and negative affectivity, such as depression and anxiety. In fact, our preliminary data demonstrate that burnout in medical residents affects sleep quality, and increases negative emotions. Strikingly, burnout in medical residents negatively impacts working performance as well as patient-physician interactions, and hence may affect the quality of health care. However, lacking are studies aimed at understating how work burnout affects cognitive performance and decision making in medical residents. The proposed study will provide essential groundwork in demonstrating the link between burnout and impaired cognitive performance. In addition, the proposed study will demonstrate feasibility for a future trial to test whether an intervention, emWave, integrating a computer based stress management (resilience training), can have a positive impact on residents with high burnout symptoms. The amelioration of psychological risk factors in medical residents may lead to improved physician-patient relationships in the service of improved quality of care.
This study was designed to observe the cerebral state obtained via wavelet analysis (HXD-I,Beijing Easymonitor Technology Co.Ltd, China) and evaluate the emotion in various states in anesthesiologist and surgeon. And we also explore the association between the characteristic of cerebral state and the emotion.
Resilience means a healthcare provider's ability to cope, recover, and learn from stressful events, as well as their access to resources that promote health and well-being. Neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) health professionals' need to have particularly good resilience, because their work is extremely stressful and their patients, fragile preterm infants, require their undivided attention. The investigators propose a feasible and engaging intervention to enhance resilience among NICU health professionals promoting their ability to provide safe care.
The Behaviour Change Institute (BCI) was created in 2008 within Capital Health to provide healthcare providers with evidence-based skills in helping patients change. In addition, the BCI has also become a resource within the organization to assist with other needed changes, such as helping healthcare providers use new or different procedures to provide better patient care. Through our work at the BCI we have identified the need to help healthcare providers to better cope with change. The purpose of this project is to implement and to evaluate an evidence-based professional resiliency training program for staff to help them better cope with change. This professional resiliency training program is based on an empirically supported form of therapy called Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. The training takes the form of a hands-on, applied workshop designed to increase resiliency and flexibility in a workplace setting.
