Also, to see if proactive approaches to maintain wellness can prevent grief among breast cancer patients, experiencing no emotional difficulties relative to treatment as usual.
Breast cancer surgery is one of the most common surgeries, due to the high incidence of breast cancer. Unfortunately, patients experience significant postoperative acute pain, placing them at risk for increased clinical morbidity and the development of disabling chronic pain which may rich up to 55% . The intensity of perioperative pain experienced by the patient is one of the best predictors of chronic pain. However, postoperative analgesia in breast cancer surgery is difficult due to the extensive nature of the surgery and the complex innervation of the breast. Several newly described regional anesthesia techniques exist to control perioperative pain, including the Paravertebral block (PVB) which has been proved to be the most effective one. The anatomic proximity of the pleura and central neuraxial system makes it a particularly challenging technique and carrying a risk of pneumothorax. The Erector Spinae Plane Block (ESPB) is a novel interfascial plane block described by Forero et al in September 2016. Local anesthetic injection is performed beneath the erector spinae muscle. Local anesthetic (LA) expected to achieve paravertebral spread of three vertebral levels cranially and four levels caudally, blocking the dorsal and ventral rami of the spinal nerves.The easy, fast and safe execution of ESPB makes it a promising technique in the context of surgical pain during breast cancer surgery. There is no sufficient randomized controlled trials that assess the effectiveness of ESPB in controlling post-operative breast surgery pain. The main purpose of this study is to evaluate the postoperative analgesic effect of Ultrasound-guided ESPB in patients undergoing breast cancer surgery.

One of the most common conservative treatments of lymphoedema is Complex Decongestive Physiotherapy (CDP). The bandage is one of the most important components of the treatment process. The multilayer short-stretch bandage is used to maintain volume reduction and prevent lymph backflow caused by compression. However, some patients refuse or postpone treatment or show a lower compliance with compression bandaging.Kinesio® Tex tape (KT) is a new technique for managing lymphoedema in the field of physical and alternative therapy, and it may affect decongestion of lymphatic fluid accumulated under the skin. Some studies which showed that KT was an effective for patients with BCRL, it was applied on both the affected arm and anastomosis. One of these studies also reported that a significant reduction in limb volume in patients who were applied of the tape only to the affected arm. This significant effect could also be seen by applying KT only to the anastomosis. In literature, however, there is no evidence to support this theory. So the aim of this study is to determine the effectiveness of KT which was applied to anastomotic regions along with CDP in the management of BCRL.
This pilot study is designed to determine whether acupuncture is a feasible, effective and safe method for alleviating insomnia among breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy as compared with a wait-list control.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women across the world, accounting for 25.2% of cancer cases among females and 14.7% of cancer-related deaths among females worldwide. The survival rates are markedly lower in the developing countries compared to developed countries, as well as the age at diagnosis. Core management of breast cancer includes surgical removal of the tumor either by breast-conserving surgery (BCS) or mastectomy (removal of the whole breast). Choosing between these two procedures may be influenced by factors that have yet to be studied in Saudi Arabia. The investigators aimed to determine the prevalence of BCS and mastectomy and the factors that may influence the choice of procedure. This retrospective study was carried out by reviewing the records of female breast cancer patients who underwent BCS or mastectomy at King Abdulaziz University Hospital between 2009 to June 2017, excluding those with metastasis (distant spread of the cancer) or recurrence. Using frequencies for the rate, and multivariate tests, the investigators analyzed different demographic, clinicopathological, and radiological factors to detect correlations with procedure choice.
This study evaluates the effectiveness of an experimental proposal therapy for upper limb lymphedema secondary to breast called Activity-oriented proprioceptive antiedema therapy (TAPA) facing the consensual gold standard treatment, the complete decongestive therapy. TAPA consists in: - Health education / patient empowerment. - Neurodynamic activities oriented to Activities of Daily Living (ADL). - Proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation exercises oriented to ADL. - Self-adherent self-adhesive antiedema of low compression. Half of patients will receive TAPA treatment while the other half will receive CDT standard treatment.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in Norway. In 2016, 3402 new cases were diagnosed (3371 in women). Breast cancer is still the second most common cause of death from cancer among women with 585 breast cancer deaths in Norway in 2015. The majority of the patients (70-75 %) belong to the Luminal subtypes, which comprise the hormone receptor (oestrogen receptor (ER) and/or progesterone receptor (PR)) positive tumours. The most important systemic adjuvant therapy in luminal breast cancers is a long-lasting administration of per-oral anti-oestrogen medication. A systemic hypo estrogenic state in the body may be created by the selective oestrogen receptor modulator tamoxifen or by inhibitors of the peripheral systemic aromatization of adrenal androgens into estrogens (aromatase inhibitors). Initially, tamoxifen was given adjuvant for 2 years, later prolonged to 5 years and recently an extension to 10 years has been recommended for premenopausal women. Aromatase inhibitors were introduced in Norwegian treatment guidelines in 2002. Currently, they are recommended in postmenopausal patients for 5 years, either as monotherapy or in concert with tamoxifen (aromatase inhibitors for 2 years followed by tamoxifen for 3 years). In premenopausal breast cancer patients, tamoxifen still is the drug of choice. Two of the major underlying reasons for late recurrences in luminal breast cancer subtypes are development of endocrine resistance to tamoxifen and aromatase inhibitors or failure of taking the medication as prescribed. Higher mortality has been shown for breast cancer patients with reduced tamoxifen adherence. The patients' ability to follow instructions and recommendations are probably overestimated in controlled trials due to patient selection and close follow-up in the study setting. Some patients experience distressing side effects like hot flushes, fatigue, joint pain, mood swings and vaginal dryness. To the investigators' knowledge, there are few studies in Norway regarding discontinuation of endocrine treatment in breast cancer. In this study they will investigate the long-term discontinuation pattern to oral adjuvant systemic endocrine therapy in a large cohort of breast cancer patients treated in St. Olav's hospital in Trondheim, Norway, and the association between adherence to endocrine treatment and long-term survival.
Breast cancer is the second most frequent cancer worldwide. Principal therapy consists in radiotherapy, but this technic has sides effects as radiodermatitis, concerning about 90 percent of women treated. Risk of flushing could be reduced by hygienic rules, but no treatment proved its efficacy to prevent radiodermatitis. Homeopathy is popular but also contested. No clinical trial proved its efficacy for this indication. The present study aims at evaluating Radium bromatum efficacy (homeopathy), compared to placebo, to prevent radiodermatitis apparition for women treated for breast cancer.
