Filter by:Brief Summary A task like breast cancer screening (mammography) can be described as a "hybrid search" task. In basic visual search tasks, observers search for a target among distractors that are not the target. In hybrid search, observers search for two or more target types. In mammography, observers are searching for masses, calcifications ("calcs"), and some other signs of cancer like architectural distortion. In this experiment, the investigators have created a simulated version of mammography where non-expert (non-radiologist) observers can look for simulated masses and calcs. There are two types of stimuli, a 2D version (like an x-ray) and a 3D version (like the output of Digital Breast Tomosynthesis - DBT). The question that is being asked is whether it is better to ask about masses and calcs separately (first one, then the other) or to just let observers look for both at the same time.
The goal of this prospective clinical trial is to improve patient compliance and performance of deep inspiration breath hold (DIBH) to further reduce the cardiac dose from left breast radiation, and to improve cooperation and patient satisfaction through an active and formal pre-treatment respiratory training program combined with relaxation training (R&R) in breast cancer patients undergoing adjuvant radiotherapy for left sided breast cancer. The main questions the study aims to answer are: - Does the use of communication training and the use of relaxation techniques (R&R) reduce the Maximum dose to the heart (Dmax) and improve further heart dose parameters in deep inspiration during adjuvant radiotherapy for breast cancer? - Does R&R improve longitudinal anxiety and quality of life under patients undergoing DIBH adjuvant radiotherapy for left sided breast cancer? Participants will be randomly assigned to either an experimental arm, which will receive the R&R, versus a standard arm that will not receive the R&R. - training program in the experimental arm includes breath hold training, music, and nature sounds that patients can listen to on an MP3 player - both groups complete standardized questionnaires about their well-being and satisfaction at prospective time points before, during the radiation treatment course, as well as at 6 weeks follow-up Researchers will compare the R&R group (interventional arm) to current conventional DIBH instruction (standard group) to see if Dmax to the heart decreases and compliance and satisfaction under patients rises.
This study is a prospective, randomized controlled, phase II clinical study with a planned enrolment of 60 patients. The study focuses on the efficacy and safety of Lactobacillus vaginalis capsules for the prevention and/or treatment of vulvovaginal symptoms in young breast cancer patients receiving ovarian protection during chemotherapy, in order to improve compliance and quality of life in breast cancer patients.
This is a subject registry study of patients who undergo cryoablation for their breast cancer after being determined not to be surgical candidates. Data collected as part of this registry will be used to assess the safety of percutaneous ultrasound-guided cryoablation in this population as well as provide long-term follow-up of subjects who received cryoablation.
This clinical trial studies the effect of cancer directed therapy given at-home versus in the clinic for patients with cancer that may have spread from where it first started to nearby tissue, lymph nodes, or distant parts of the body (advanced). Currently most drug-related cancer care is conducted in infusion centers or specialty hospitals, where patients spend many hours a day isolated from family, friends, and familiar surroundings. This separation adds to the physical, emotional, social, and financial burden for patients and their families. The logistics and costs of navigating cancer treatments have become a principal contributor to patients' reduced quality of life. It is therefore important to reduce the burden of cancer in the lives of patients and their caregivers, and a vital aspect of this involves moving beyond traditional hospital and clinic-based care and evaluate innovative care delivery models with virtual capabilities. Providing cancer treatment at-home, versus in the clinic, may help reduce psychological and financial distress and increase treatment compliance, especially for marginalized patients and communities.
This study is to find out that if HER-2 positive and HR positive patients could benefit from trastuzumab and pertuzumab combined with palbociclib and endocrine therapy.
The goal of this clinical trial is to compare the effect of a Food for Special Medical Purposes (FSMP) mainly containing amino acids and flavonoids in combination with nutritional counseling, versus nutritional counseling alone, on chemotherapy toxicity, nutritional status and quality of life in patients with breast cancer. The main questions it aims to answer are: - can this dietary supplementation affect the nutritional status of breast cancer patients? - can this dietary supplementation have any beneficial effect on chemotoxicity? Participants will be asked to undergo nutritional counseling and to take the study product every day for 12 weeks. Researchers will compare a similar group of participants only receiving the nutritional counseling to see if any difference occurs.
Accurate risk assessment is essential for the success of population screening programs and early detection efforts in breast cancer. Mirai is a new deep learning model based on full resolution mammograms. Mirai is a mammography-based deep learning model designed to predict risk at multiple timepoints, leverage potentially missing risk factor information, and produce predictions that are consistent across mammography machines. Mirai was trained on a large dataset from Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) in the United States and found to be significantly more accurate than the Tyrer-Cuzick model, a current clinical standard. The primary aim of this study is to prospectively quantify the clinical benefit (i.e. MRI/CEM cancer detection rate) of Mirai-based guidelines and to compare them to the current standard of care. 1. Conduct a prospective study where patients who are identified as high risk by Mirai guidelines are invited to receive supplemental MRI within 12 months. 2. Compare cancer outcomes between patients only identified as high risk by Mirai and patients identified as high risk by existing guidelines The secondary aim is to study the impact of new guidelines by race and ethnicity, to ensure equitable improvements in cancer screening.
This phase I clinical trial tests the immune effects of fermented wheat germ in patients with advanced solid tumor cancers who are being treated with standard of care checkpoint inhibitors. Fermented wheat germ is a nutritional supplement that some claim is a "dietary food for special medical purposes for cancer patients" to support them in treatment. There have also been claims that fermented wheat germ is "clinically proven" and "recognized by medical experts" to "enhance oncological treatment" and boost immune response to cancer; however, there are currently no documented therapeutic effects of fermented wheat germ as a nutritional supplement. Checkpoint inhibitors, given as part of standard of care for advanced solid tumors, are a type of immunotherapy that may help the body's immune system attack the cancer and may interfere with the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. The information gained from this trial may allow researchers to determine if there is any value of giving fermented wheat germ with standard of care checkpoint inhibitors for patients with advanced solid tumor malignancies.
The researcher are doing this study to find out whether benralizumab is effective at preventing skin rashes caused by alpelisib in people who have metastatic breast cancer. Skin rash is a common side effect of alpelisib. Researchers think adding benralizumab to the standard-of-care hormone treatment and alpelisib may prevent the patient from getting a rash.
