NCT ID: NCT03310593 Terminated - Bipolar Disorder Clinical Trials

Cannabidiol as an Adjunctive Treatment for Bipolar Depression

CBDBD
Start date: November 1, 2017
Phase: Phase 2/Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

Depressive symptoms are associated with significant psychosocial impairment. However, current treatments of bipolar depression are only partially effective. Cannabidiol is a natural component of cannabis without psychotomimetic or addictive properties. Cannabidiol has been shown to produce therapeutic effects including anticonvulsive, anxiolytic, antipsychotic and neuroprotective effects. The investigators hypothesize that treatment with cannabidiol will result in improvement of depressive and anxiety symptoms, as well as, improvement in functioning and inflammatory biomarkers. During the clinical trial, subjects will receive study medication (cannabidiol 150-300mg/day) or placebo for a period of 12 weeks.

NCT ID: NCT03275714 Completed - Clinical trials for Bipolar Affective Disorder

Evaluation of an App for Smartphones for People With a Bipolar Affective Disorder

Start date: September 1, 2017
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The primary objective of the clinical trial is to evaluate the data of an app for smartphones (BiP-App) with regard to sleep, movement, mood and communication behavior. The data will be compared between two groups: people with a bipolar affective disorder and individuals without a psychiatric disorder. Secondary objective of the trial is to investigate if it is possible to detect early warning symptoms of depressive / (hypo) manic episodes via the measured behavior patterns. Furthermore it will be evaluated whether the BiP-app can find applicability in the examined patient group. Study design: Clinical evaluation of a medical device without CE mark; Parallel study design

NCT ID: NCT03249857 Completed - Clinical trials for Bipolar Affective Disorder

Study of Sensorimotor Compatibility Effects in Bipolar Affective Disorder.

Start date: October 26, 2017
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Based in an embodied approach of cognition, several studies have highlighted a direct link between perception of an object or an emotion and the associated motor responses. This study investigated in patients suffering from bipolar affective disorders whether the perception of emotional words involves an automatic sensorimotor simulation of approach and avoidance behaviors, and whether the perception of an object involves an automatic sensorimotor simulation of object prehension (affordance). We hypothesize that, in this pathology, low level (sensorimotor) cognitive processes are preserved whereas high-level (attentional) are altered. 20 patients suffering from bipolar affective disorders and 20 healthy controls will be recruited. The main objective is the emergence of sensorimotor compatibility effects in approach-avoidance task with emotional stimuli (gain between compatible vs incompatible conditions).

NCT ID: NCT02773108 Completed - Schizophrenia Clinical Trials

Somatic Comorbidities in Psychiatric Patients

SCPP
Start date: May 2016
Phase:
Study type: Observational

Prevalence of somatic comorbidities in psychiatric patients hospitalized in Psychiatric hospital or treated ambulatory or in daily hospital. Comparison of prevalence of somatic comorbidities in psychiatric patients population and the general Croatian population.

NCT ID: NCT02453217 Completed - Schizophrenia Clinical Trials

The Potential Efficacy of the Chinese Health Improvement Profile- A Pilot Clustered Randomised Controlled Trial

CHIP
Start date: March 31, 2016
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The investigators programme of research will evaluate an existing physical health care screening intervention with the aim of helping Community Psychiatric Nurses (CPN) to improve the physical health wellbeing of people with a SMI. This pilot clustered randomised controlled trial aims to establish the potential efficacy and acceptability of the Chinese Health Improvement Profile (CHIP) in improving the physical health of people with severe mental illness.

NCT ID: NCT02083978 Completed - Clinical trials for Bipolar Affective Disorder

Bipolar Research Study Using MR Imaging

Start date: January 2010
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

In this proposal, the investigators will focus on subcortical gray and white matter structures commonly found to be abnormal in schizophrenia. Thus, the investigators will evaluate the volume and shape of the hippocampus, thalamus and basal ganglia, as well as measures of structural integrity of the corpus callosum and its various subregions.

NCT ID: NCT01722344 Completed - Clinical trials for Bipolar Affective Disorder

Improving Work Outcome for People With Severe Mental Illness

Start date: October 2012
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to investigate the efficacy of IPS in Denmark and compare effects of 1. Individual Placement and Support (IPS) vs. 2. IPS + cognitive remediation and work-related social skills training vs. 3. standard intervention, among individuals with severe mental illness.

NCT ID: NCT01431092 Completed - Schizophrenia Clinical Trials

Melatonin Versus Placebo for Benzodiazepine Discontinuation in Patients With Schizophrenia

SMART
Start date: October 2011
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

In this trial, researchers aim to investigate if prolonged-release melatonin can facilitate the withdrawal of chronic benzodiazepine administration in patients with schizophrenia. Furthermore, researchers will investigate the association of benzodiazepine dose reduction with the following clinically important variables: sleep, psychophysiology, cognition, social function, and quality of life.

NCT ID: NCT01315028 Completed - Mania Clinical Trials

Bipolar Intervention Study: Cognitive Interpersonal Therapy

BISCIT
Start date: November 2010
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

There is a need to develop a better understanding of the early phase of bipolar disorder, and to develop and evaluate effective psychosocial interventions that assist people in this phase. The purpose of this study is to determine whether or not it is feasible to conduct a larger study of the effectiveness of cognitive interpersonal therapy (a psychological therapy) with individuals who have experienced their first or second treated episode of mania or hypomania (symptoms common in early development of bipolar disorders).

NCT ID: NCT01272531 Completed - Clinical trials for Bipolar Affective Disorder

Pharmacogenomics of Mood Stabilizer Response in Bipolar Disorder (PGBD)

Start date: April 2011
Phase:
Study type: Observational

This is a prospective pharmacogenomics study of mood stabilizer response. The goal of this work is to identify genes associated with good response of patients with bipolar disorder to two commonly used mood stabilizing agents, lithium and valproate.
