Effects of a Mechanical Needle Stimulation Pad on Chronic Low Back Pain

The needle stimulation pad is a self-care device, which has been promoted for pain control and well-being. The aim of the study was to test the efficacy of the pad for chronic/recurrent low back pain treatment. Patients with non-specific chronic or recurrent low back pain were selected from a large health insurance company database and advised to use the pad daily for two weeks; outcomes were assessed at baseline, weeks 2 and 14. Primary outcome measure was pain intensity at week 2; secondary outcome measures included the Oswestry disability index (ODI), health-related quality of life (SF-36), the fear avoidance beliefs questionnaire (FABQ), analgesic medication consumption and safety.

The Effects of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Transcranial Current Stimulation (tDCS) on Chronic Lower Back Pain

The primary objective of this study is to evaluate the effects of cognitive-behavioral therapy in combination with transcranial direct current stimulation in (1) improving pain and functionality, (2) reducing severity of opioid use disorders, and (3) reducing impairment in associated mental health areas (e.g., depression, anxiety, PTSD, sleep). The investigators will also determine the effects of treatment on neural activity in cognitive and limbic brain regions involved in pain regulation using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), and examine its relationship to opioid use severity.

A Trial of Cooled Radiofrequency Ablation of Medial Branch Nerves for theTreatment of Lumbar Facet Syndrome

This study is being done to determine whether cooled radiofrequency ablation (CRFA) on the medial branch nerves of the lumbar facet joint is effective for the treatment of low back pain. CRFA blocks the nerves that carry pain signals from joints in the lower back such that the brain does not receive the message that the low back is in pain. This technique is commonly performed by burning these nerves rather freezing them, but it is suspected that freezing them results in better pain relief. The CRFA blocks has been shown to effectively treat sacroiliac joint pain (a joint in the pelvis), which is another reason that it is suspected that CRFA will be effective when treating pain related to facet joints in the low back. We are performing this study in order to determine if that is the case.

Coping Skills Training for Living With Chronic Low Back Pain

Up to 80% of Australians experience back pain and 10% have significant disability as a result. There is a critical need for the development and evaluation of innovative treatments that have the capacity to target the multidimensional nature of chronic low back pain. This study will compare the effects and mechanisms of Mindfulness Meditation, Cognitive Therapy, and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy for chronic low back pain. Results will ultimately lead to streamlined interventions designed to efficiently maximise benefit.

Spinal Manipulative Therapy Treatment Effect Modifiers in Individuals With Low Back Pain

This study considers whether treatment effects in response to spinal manipulative therapy for individuals experiencing low back pain are dependent upon the context in which the intervention is provided. Half of the participants will receive spinal manipulative therapy with encouragement to interact with the provider and information to enhance expectations for the effectiveness of the intervention. The other half will receive spinal manipulative therapy with minimal interaction with the provider.

Efficacy of the Electronic Acupuncture Shoes: A Clinical Trial for Chronic Low Back Pain

This randomized , double-blind, parallel-arm clinical trial was designed to study the efficacy and safety of the "Electronic Acupuncture Shoes" treatment on chronic low back pain patients. Chronic low back pain patients, aged 20-60, of both gender were recruited. As the primary outcome measure to assess the efficacy, "0-10 numerical rating scale" was used. Secondary outcome measure included the speed of pain-relief. The number of samples in the experimental group and the control group ratio of 1 : 1 , is expected to total effective sample number is 60 . Experimental group will receive a six-week "Electronic Acupuncture Shoes" treatment and a week back to the clinic three times , subject to a total of 18 treatments , each course of about one hour . Subjects will take NSAID placebo in the first week of the course of treatment . After the second week of NSAID placebo on disabled. Control subjects will also accept the six- week treatment , control subjects will be equally back to the clinic three times a week , each group will be given to the subject of one hour each shoe pseudo electrotherapy treatment group and control group run by entering from the test day in the first week of the course , each taking ibuprofen 400mg, taken three times a day , the second week after the NSAID drugs on disabled.

What Are the Brakes and Levers of Physical Activity Practice for Patients With Chronic Lower Back Pain?

Non-specific chronic lower back pain is a common pathology which is a real public health problem. Around 84% of the population could have non-specific chronic lower back pain at least once in their lives and 8% of that non-specific lower back pain could become chronical (pain that would last at least 3 months). This proportion of patients represents 85% of the costs related to this pathology. Physical activity practice is involved in medical care for plenty of chronical diseases and particularly for chronic lower back pain. In 2003, World Health Organization pointed out the poor adhesion of patients with chronical diseases to medical prescriptions and the after-effects it could have on illness evolution. Therefore, adhesion to physical activity practice for patients with chronic lower back pain is one of the most challenging matters for medical teams. The aim of this study was to identify the brakes and levers of physical activity practice for these patients. Sixteen individual interviews and four focus groups have been carried out on patients with chronic lower back pain who were taken care of either by a rachis functional restoration program or by primary care.

Recent evidence suggested that the anterior insula cortex seems to be the main site of interoception. Several studies showed an association between change in insula function and interoception, bodily perception and consciousness in subjects with chronic pain. Although osteopathic research has been demonstrated to be effective in reducing pain, studies exploring the effect of osteopathy on interoception are lacking. Therefore, the aim of the present study is to explore the extent to which osteopathic treatment could modify interoception parameters both measuring brain functional connectivity and clinical questionnaires.
