Filter by:The goal of this study is to characterize biophysiolgoical signals as a comprehensive profile of the nervous systems in order to understand interactions between the brain and body, while an individual performs naturalistic behaviors (ex. walking, pointing) and while breathing at a slow controlled pace. The investigators aim to study these interactions among a variety of populations, from healthy individuals to those with disorders such as Autism Spectrum Disorder(s), including those who may also have an ADHD (Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder) diagnosis, Asperger's Syndrome, Alzheimer's Disease, and/or Fragile X syndrome
This treatment study of esomeprazole in ASD will be the first study in the world with significant originality and innovation. The investigators anticipate seeing the effect of esomeprazole on improving the core symptoms of ASD, particularly within the social communication and cognition domains.
Study Design: Ninety children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), between the ages of 2 to less than 7 years, and their parents will be recruited for this 10 week randomized clinical trial. Participants will be randomized to five individually delivered sessions of Sleep Parent Training (SPT) or five individually delivered sessions of Sleep Parent Education (SPE). Delivery of the programs will be via telehealth platform which also includes parent-child coaching in real-time. In addition to baseline, outcome measures will be collected at week 5 (midpoint of trial) and week 10 (endpoint of trial) as well as follow-up at week 16 to determine durability of treatment.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of JNJ-42165279 compared with placebo in the improvement of symptoms of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) during 12 weeks of treatment using the Autism Behavior Inventory (ABI).
This study investigates the efficacy of a single-dose of exogenous oxytocin administration on socially adaptive mirror-motor mapping in participants with Autism Spectrum Disorders. A placebo-controlled cross-over trial will be conducted: each participant will receive both a single-dose of placebo and oxytocin in two sessions separated by one week. The order of nasal spray will be randomised across participants. Mirror-motor mapping will be assessed by transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), a standard technique to investigate mirror system activity.
This study evaluates the effect of a competency based model on program quality in Swedish preschools for Children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Half of the participating preschools will receive "treatment as usual" (Early Intensive Behavioral Intervention (EIBI) provided to a Child with ASD in the preschool, supervised by an external supervisor from a habilitation center), while the other half will receive the above as well as, in-service training and monthly on-site coaching sessions also involving preschool staff other than the paraprofessional (competency based model). It is hypothesized that the competency based model will improve program quality, child's engagement, preschool staff knowledge, allegiance and self-efficacy compared to the comparison group.
Background: Previous research has shown that individuals with ASD often have difficulties coping with auditory stimuli in the environment. These difficulties can be extremely debilitating, lead to anxiety and disruptive behaviors, and interfere with the ability to process and understand speech. Research Design: In previous research, the investigators have identified a brain marker associated with poor auditory attention that can provide a direct readout of auditory processing issues. The investigators will develop and test a cognitive/behavioral intervention (a tablet-based game app) that is highly engaging and accessible to a wide range of individuals with ASD. The intervention is designed to train adolescents with ASD to adapt and attend to auditory cues. Objectives: To evaluate whether the intervention leads to improvement in auditory attention as assessed by behavior changes over the course of training; to investigate the impact of the intervention on behavioral assessment of problems hearing speech in noisy environments, neural processing of sounds, and changes in parent report on responses to sounds that impact that daily lives of the participants; and finally- to determine which adolescents with ASD benefit the most and least from interventions such as this one. We hypothesize that we can elicit changes in the neural processing of sounds for adolescents with ASD via training in the form of the tablet-based game we are developing. If we are successful, this could lead to other interventions for persons with ASD in the hopes of improving the auditory difficulties they face.
The WHO defines sexual health as a state of physical, emotional, mental and social well-being, related to sexuality, not only the absence of illness, dysfunction or disability. To acquire and maintain adequate sexual health, the sexual rights of all people must be respected, protected and fully exercised. People with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) present difficulties in the development of social interaction skills, among other problems that directly affect their sexual health. The consolidated prejudices and social myths related to the sexual affectivity of people with ASD, and in general to people with intellectual diversity, have meant that they do not pay any attention to the sexual health of this group in the assessment of their needs. Main objectives: to understand the experience lived by young people with ASD and their caregivers in relation to the affective needs during adolescence and to know the cognitive and behavioral expression of the affective dimension of adolescents with ASD. Mixed simultaneous design: qualitative based on the phenomenological paradigm, in order to establish the perceived needs of young adults with ASD, their families and the professionals who attend them, with the realization of focus groups and in-depth interviews. The second quantitative part will be developed in adolescents (12-18 years) and their families, evaluating the habitual behaviors and difficulties of Interaction in the affective expression, by means of questionnaires and self-administered scales. It will be necessary to sign the Informed Consent by all the participants, with the specific acceptance of the project by the CEIC of the investigator's center.
This trial investigates the behavioural effects of Internet-based Cognitive behaviour therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) in adolescents with autism spectrum disorder with sleep problems. This is a randomised controlled trial.
