Mindreading in Adults With Autism Spectrum Disorder

This study aims to investigate the ability of reading emotions by the Eyes task in adults with ASD, and examine the gazing pattern and frontal activation during the task. We plan to recruit 50 adults with ASD and 50 typically-developing adults. Eye-tracking and frontal activation (measured by functional near-infrared spectroscopy) will be examined during the Eyes task.

Effects of Routines-Based Early Intervention in Children With Autism Spectrum Disorder

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) mainly has social and interaction related problems, and repetitive behaviors or interests. In recent years, studies showed that Routine-Based Early Intervention(RBEI) could increase children's development and enhance skills maintenance. Using the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health for Children and Youth (ICF-CY) to assess children can identify different factors under systematic analysis, then improving children's physical functions and self-care abilities. Therefore, this study will design RBEI programs for autistic children, and use ICF-CY to assess the efficacy of RBEIin body function, body structure, and participation for children with autism.

Daily Living Skills Intervention for Adolescents With Autism Spectrum Disorder

The main objective of the current proposal is to conduct a pilot RCT (i.e., treatment group and social skills control group) to examine how participation in Surviving and Thriving in the Real World (STRW) Intervention affects proximal outcomes with a larger sample size (n = 72). As social skills, executive functioning, and parenting factors have been linked to the acquisition of Daily Living Skills (DLS), the current study will also explore how these are linked to participation in STRW. Lastly, goal attainment scaling (GAS) will be utilized, along with gold standard parent report and adolescent self-report measures, to assess DLS.

Deep Brain Stimulation in Children With Autism

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety and possible effectiveness of deep brain stimulation (DBS) of the nucleus accumbens in children with autism spectrum disorder and treatment-refractory, repetitive self-injurious behavior. Six (6) patients will be recruited and enrolled in this pilot study and study duration for each patient will be one (1) year. All will undergo surgical implantation of the Medtronic DBS system and will receive stimulation of the nucleus accumbens (2 electrodes per patient).This will be an open, non-blinded, non-randomized, pilot, phase I trial.Expected study duration is 36 months.

Psychophysiological Effects of Lactobacillus Plantarum PS128 in Preschool Children With Autism Spectrum Disorder

Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) comprises a complex group of disorders of neuronal development characterized by social and communication impairment along with presence of repetitive and restrictive behaviors. Emerging evidences support the gut-brain axis and further microbiota-gut-brain axis. Elevated prevalence of gastrointestinal (GI) dysfunction in individuals with ASD suggested that targeting gut may benefit patients with ASD. Lactobacillus plantarum PS128 (PS128) was reported to be a psychobiotic in several animal studies which modulated the levels of neurotransmitters in different brain areas. The current randomized, placebo-controlled trial was conducted to investigate the psychophysiological effects of PS128 in preschool children with ASD.

the Effect of Vestibular Rehabilitation in Autistic Children

This study was conducted to clarify the effect of vestibular education for autistic children on "sensory profile" and "postrotary nystagmus". In the study, the results of the two groups were compared through the treatment of sensory integration: the once who got the education and the once who did not. For this study, 26 autistic children were included who joined the " Çatalca District Unit of Disabled the Project of No Disabilities ", who was diagnosed with autism, who was 3-10 years (older than 36 months younger than 11 years). For each child, the analysis of the sensory integration and nystagmus was applied twice; at the beginning and at the end of the research. At the beginning of the research, the children were divided into two groups randomly drawn by lots. The first group was given the education of sensory integration with vestibular education and the second group was given the education of sensory integration without vestibular education. Both groups were educated for 10 weeks, 2 days a week with 40- minute sessions.

Neurostimulation for Cognitive Rehabilitation in Autistic Spectrum Disorders

This study is a clinical trial aims investigate the effects of neurostimulation in the treatment of children with mild ASD, specifically the action of tDCS on social cognition skills. tDCS can modulate neuronal activity in patients with ASD. Specifically, this technique has shown to be a promising tool in the promotion of social neuroplasticity, aiming at more adaptive social interactions. In this sense, it was hypothesized that participants treated with active tDCS will present better performance in social cognition tests than those submitted to sessions with simulated current.
