Filter by:To address developmental service navigation by families of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) an innovative paper-based tracking tool called the Pediatric Developmental Passport (Passport) was created by Dr. Elizabeth Young at St. Michael's Hospital. The Passport was adapted through a partnership between St. Michael's hospital and Autism Films Inc. into a mobile application called My Autism Passport (MAP). MAP allows families to learn about, and manage publicly-funded ASD services from their mobile device. Users can locate resources within their region, and track their progress in accessing services across multiple service agencies. The user can also set reminders on MAP which will be synced with their calendars, record notes, and read short summaries of the services offered by regional agencies. In this way, the application keeps families engaged, and allows them to take control of their child's care. The feasibility of the MAP mobile application will be assessed by clinicians and end users. Clinicians from five developmental diagnostic organizations that have more than one year of experience diagnosing and providing follow up care to children with ASD will be informed of the study and invited to participate in recruitment in their respective practices. Caregivers of a child that is given a new diagnosis of ASD will be invited to participate in the study and be randomized to the control group or non control group and may have access to the application for 18 months. During the 18 month period, data on how caregivers are using the app will be collected. At 6, 12 and 18 months, caregivers will be invited to participate in questionnaires on number of services accessed, parent stress levels and self-efficacy levels. Questionnaires and interviews will be quantitatively analyzed for differences between groups, and findings will be used to improve the app prior to a larger prospective clinical trial.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the long-term safety and tolerability of brexpiprazole in children and adolescent participants, aged 5 to 17, with irritability associated with autism spectrum disorder.
Objectives The primary objective of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of the SREIA parent training program for families of children with ASD aged three to six years in mainland China. The study will be conducted within the context of routine service provision and assess the effectiveness of SREIA in reducing child behavioral problems as measured by the Externalizing scale of the Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL) for Ages 1.5-5, in comparison to a waitlist control group. Secondary objectives include examining the effectiveness of the SREIA program in reducing ASD symptoms and improving parental and familial outcomes including parental knowledge of ASD and ABA techniques, parenting styles, parental mental health (including stress, anxiety and depression), and family functioning. A process evaluation will be conducted alongside the quasi-experimental trial, the objectives of which are to 1) describe the implementation aspects of the programs with regard to participant involvement, program acceptability, delivery, and sustainability; 2) explore predictors of participant involvement; and 3) examine potential relations between implementation aspects and treatment effects. Background ASD is associated with elevated levels of child emotional and behavior disturbance, which impair child daily functioning and impose challenges to parenting. The SREIA programme is a group-based parent training in China, that has been delivered since 1993 and reached over 10,000 families. However, there is an absence of scientific evaluations of programme effectiveness. This study aims to fill this evidence gap, and the findings will be used to inform future modification, replication, and dissemination of the programme in other parts of China. This study will also contribute to the literature on the effectiveness of parent training programmes for ASD and for families living in low- and middle-income countries. Methods A quasi-experimental design with a mixed-methods approach will be used, involving two consecutive waves of delivery of the SREIA programme. Parent participants will complete demographic and outcome questionnaires at baseline, immediate post-intervention, and 1- or 1.5-year post-intervention (conditional to funding). The implementation components will be assessed by collecting attendance and engagement registry data, facilitators filling out fidelity checklists, research staff observing programme sessions, and parents answering a satisfaction questionnaire. After the programme, some parents, facilitators, and NGO (non-governmental organisation) managers will be invited to take part in qualitative interviews or focus group discussions so as to explore their views about the programme, and to better understand the quantitative data obtained.
1. ASD children with gastrointestinal problems that interfere with daily routine will be recruited at the center for Autism led by Prof Zachor, and at the Pediatric Neurology & Development Center at Shamir Medical Center. Publications in the social media- facebook and support groups for Autism will also be used. The decision whether or not to initiate any medical treatment will not be influenced by the study investigators and will be made solely by the treating doctor. 2. If possible, participants will provide informed consent after receiving a thorough explanation by the study team, as will both parents or other legal guardians. 3. Two groups randomization will be performed, group A and group B. The group randomization will be double blinded. 4. Participants randomized to group A will receive 10 capsules FMT twice a week for 3 weeks, and at week 12 followed by 3 weeks placebo twice a week. 5. Participants randomized to group B will receive 10 capsules placebo twice a week for 3 weeks and at week 12 followed by 3 weeks FMT twice a week. 6. At baseline, participants will undergo a full physical examination, vital signs, medical questionnaire, ROME III questionnaire for kids >age4 />age 10, ATN-GISSI-17 questionnaire, Aut-Eat questionnaire regarding eating habbits, the Social Responsiveness Scale (SRS) and the Adaptive Behavior Assessment System (ABAS). 7. Parents/ care providers will fill a daily symptoms follow-up questionnaire at baseline 8. Fecal samples will be provided for analysis of microbiome and proteome at beseline, weeks 3,12, 15 and 6+9 months. 9. At each FMT/Placebo administration a short questionnaire asking about possible adverse events, GI symptoms, overall well-being, and medication changes will be administered
This study aims to evaluate the relevance of a new computerized test for pragmatic inferences (TIPi) in children aged 8 to 12 YO, presenting a typical development, autism spectrum disorders or another neurodevelopmental condition.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neuro-developmental disorders. There are different types of interventions. Among these interventions Early Start Denver Model (ESDM) and Preschool Autism Communication Therapy (PACT) have proved efficacy at short and long term. PACT is the therapy with the highest evidences when Parents delivered the intervention themselves.
This study is a phase II, prospective, double blind, placebo-controlled study of the efficacy of autologous umbilical cord blood infusion. The study population will consist of 60 children ages 18 months to 12 years with ASD. The population will be randomly assigned to 2 groups, the study group be treated by cord blood in the beginning of the study and the control group by placebo product. The study will consist of 4 stages Stage 1: initial assessment by physiotherapist and occupational therapist / treatment by cord blood or placebo / blood work before and after treatment Stage 2: at stage 1 + 6 months assessment by physiotherapist and occupational therapist / cross-over treatment by cord blood or placebo / blood work before and after treatment Stage 4: at stage 1 + 12 months assessment by physiotherapist and occupational therapist The primary outcome is improvement of social communication skills six months after treatment at stage 1
This study will evaluate the effects of repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) on neural and behavioral facets of social cognition in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Participant visits will include a baseline assessment of neuropsychological, cognitive and behavioral function, and an EEG (electroencephalogram) and eye-tracking session to measure neural and visual attentional social response before and after administration of TMS.
The aim of the study is to assess the occurrence of traumatic dental Injury in a group of Egyptian Autistic Children compared to normal children. Population: Egyptian children Exposure: Autistic children. Control: Normal children. Outcome: Primary Outcome: occurence of Traumatic injury. Secondary Outcome: Risk factor, Oral habits.
This study was designed as a randomized controlled clinical trial of pediatric massage for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). 72 ASD children will be recruited and randomly divided into two groups: the treatment group (pediatric massage + usual care, n=36) and the control group (usual care/waitlist group, n=36).30 healty controls will be recruited. Children in the treatment group will received 12 weeks pediatric massage by doctors and their own parents. The Autism Behavior Checklist (ABC), Childhood Autism Rating Scale (CARS), Autism Treatment Evaluation Checklist (ATEC), Social Responsiveness Scale-Second Edition (SRS-2), Children's Sleep Habits Questionnaire (CSHQ) and Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQ) will be used to assess the clinical behavioral changes of all participants, and to analyze the clinical effectiveness and safety of pediatric massage for children with ASD. Electroencephalography (EEG) and brain functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) will be recorded before and after treatment, to observe the potential brain target of pediatric massage for children with ASD.
