Sleep disturbance is a common complaint among patients with atopic dermatitis(AD). Melatonin may aid sleep and also has anti-inflammatory properties, and has been suggested in managing sleep disturbance in AD patients. However, there has been no large randomized controlled trials. Hence the objective of this double-blind randomized controlled study is to determine whether supplementing melatonin is effective in improving sleep problems in children with AD.
Many studies had demonstrated that probiotics could be applied in the prevention and adjuvant treatment for allergic diseases. In this study, we investigate the effects of Lactobacillus paracasei GMNL-133(LP), Lactobacillus fermentum GM-090 (LF), and Lactobacillus paracasei GMNL-133(LP) with Lactobacillus fermentum GM-090 (LF) combination products used for adjuvant treatment of atopic dermatitis and asthma.
The purpose of this study is to assess the clinical activity on refractory moderate-to-severe pruritus of a single intravenous (IV) dose of REGN846 in adult patients with moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis (AD).
Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease characterized by exacerbations and remission of intensely pruritic lesions of variable location. AD may be acute (short-term and severe) with predominantly redness, vesicles and oozing, or it may be chronic (long-term) with scaling, skin thickening, altered pigmentation and exaggerated surface markings. The condition affects mainly the creases of the elbows and knees, and the face and neck, although it can affect any part of the body. The severity of AD is variable, ranging from localized mild scaling to generalized involvement of the whole body. Itching is the predominant symptom, which can induce a vicious cycle of scratching, leading to skin damage. There is a tendency to lifelong dry sensitive skin. Skin of AD is often colonized by Staphylococcus aureus contributing to perpetuating cutaneous inflammation. AD treatment is based on skin hydration, identification and elimination of flare factors, and pharmacologic therapy. Biofunctional textiles are emerging as new and complementary tools . Chitosan is a natural polysaccharide with in vitro anti-microbial activity and regenerating properties. The investigators aim to evaluate the effect of a textile coated with chitosan in AD treatment as well as its impact on systemic inflammation and skin microbiome. The investigators hypothesize the use of biofunctional textile coated with chitosan will improve severity of AD , quality of life and diminish skin colonization with Staphylococcus aureus and some skin moulds, namely Malassezia.
There is a lack of prospective scientific data on the regular use of moisturizers in patients at risk of developing atopic dermatitis. Although generally accepted and widely used for secondary prevention, emollients have not been studied as a primary prevention strategy. Strategies previously studied for the prevention of atopic dermatitis include maternal and child's dietary manipulations, allergens avoidance, delay of food introduction, exclusive breastfeeding and probiotic supplementation. Despite years of research, none of those strategies yielded to strong evidence of a protective effect. There is therefore a need to explore novel strategies. There is a need to compare the cumulative incidence rate of atopic dermatitis in newborns using a standard bathing and moisturizing routine with a good moisturizer to a non interventional group. This 2-year study will recruit approximately four hundred and sixty (460) pregnant women with a first degree relative of the child to be born who currently has (or previously had) a diagnosis of atopic dermatitis in order to study approximately 200 eligible newborns in each of the two study groups at the beginning of the study. Pregnant women will be randomized (1:1) to either daily use of the moisturizer Lipikar Balm AP (applied to their infant) starting from birth (Group 1) immediately after bathing or to no intervention (Group 2).
The study will assess the safety and efficacy of QGE031 in the treatment of moderate to severe atopic dermatitis patients. In addition, QGE031 levels in the blood will be measured and the effect of QGE031 on markers in the blood and skin will be evaluated. Comparisons of the effect of QGE31 will be made with placebo and also cyclosporine, a treatment already established as being effective in atopic dermatitis.

Psoriasis is a chronic autoimmune disorder of the skin. In this disease, the inflammatory caspases, cysteine proteases involved in the processing of many proteins, are activated. Transgenic mice expressing the cleaved form of caspases by Lyn, a tyrosine kinase Src family, develop an inflammatory syndrome with the characteristics of human psoriasis. To clarify the relationship between the cleaved form of Lyn by caspases and psoriasis, the investigators intend to develop a clinical study to analyze the expression, cleavage and activity of Lyn and the activation of caspases from skin biopsies of patients with this disease. This study will be conducted on a cohort of patients with different forms of psoriasis (plaque, pustular and erythrodermic) and atopic dermatitis, another skin disorder associated with chronic inflammation. Thus, the investigators will evaluate the expression and activity of Lyn from skin lesion (L) and non-lesional (NL) from the same patient in parallel with the level of caspase activation and apoptotic inflammatory. Thus, the investigators will verify that the cleavage by caspases of Lyn is associated specifically with psoriasis, as the investigators believe, or more generally to the skin inflammation. The investigators work would then define the cleavage by caspases of Lyn as a new potential marker of human psoriasis.
