Filter by:The MARS trial is a randomized, double-blind, parallel group study that compares the capacity of azithromycin or montelukast to placebo as effective adjunctive therapy that allows reduction of inhaled corticosteroids in children ages 6 to 17 years with moderate to severe persistent asthma. The primary null hypothesis is that in children with moderate-to-severe persistent asthma, a macrolide antibiotic (azithromycin) or a leukotriene receptor antagonist (montelukast) will provide a steroid-sparing effect when compared to placebo as the dose of inhaled corticosteroid is reduced. This will be tested following achievement of control of symptoms with moderate to high-dose inhaled corticosteroid in combination with a long-acting bronchodilator agonist. Use of these doses for the inhaled corticosteroid will be based on NHLBI step-up guidelines to achieve asthma control.
The research hypothesis for the proposed study asks the question, can Asmanex® demonstrate comparable anti-inflammatory therapeutic efficacy to the combination product, Advair® in control of mild persistent asthma? The purpose is to demonstrate that the anti-inflammatory protection afforded by monotherapy with an inhaled steroid (Asmanex®) is comparable to combination therapy with Advair® 100/50, when measured by this standard methodology (methacholine bronchoprovocation) in subjects with mild persistent asthma.
This study will be the First Time in Human Study (FTIH) aiming to assess the safety and tolerability of GW805858 for both single and repeat dose. The study also aims to assess safety and tolerability in mild asthmatic subjects as well as healthy volunteers.
This is a randomized, multicenter, placebo-controlled, double-blind, parallel-group study evaluating Asmanex Twisthaler 220 mcg once daily (QD) in the evening (PM) compared with "Asmanex" Placebo QD PM for 12 weeks. Efficacy will be measured for the changes in forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1) from baseline to the end of treatment period (Week 12 or end of the study).
A clinical study to evaluate the efficacy and safety of MK0633 in adult patients with chronic asthma.
This study will evaluate the efficacy, safety and tolerability of two dosages of a new drug TPI ASM8 administered by inhalation for 14 days to mild to moderate asthmatic patients, aged between 18-65, non-smokers . The study will also look at the nature and quantity of inflammatory white cells in the lung secretions and in the blood, and some additional inflammation markers.
The investigators propose to study the patterns of metabolite changes in subjects with asthma to determine if there is a predictable pattern prior to, and post, clinical exacerbation. Hypothesis: 1. Metabolite profiles will change prior to detection of a clinical exacerbation in subjects with asthma. 2. There will be a measurable temporal delay before metabolite profiles return to baseline following anti-inflammatory therapy of an exacerbation of asthma.
This study is intended to extend the knowledge of Symbicort Single Inhaler Therapy into a more general setting in order to assess the real-life impact of introducing this new treatment concept. The study will compare the Symbicort Single Inhaler Therapy concept with a conventional stepwise treatment regimen according to the investigator's judgement in patients who present with symptoms on inhaled glucocorticosteroids (GCS) treatment or who require and are already on treatment with a combination of inhaled and long-acting B2 agonists (LABA).
The aim of the study is identify biological parameters reflecting proteolytic activity in the exhaled condenstaes which might be useful to follow up pulmonary inflammation in various conditions including cystic fibrosis, COPD, asthma, tobacco exposure. Three proteases will be analyzed, i.e. elastase, proteinase 3 and cathepsin G. Results in the condensates will be compared to those obtained in sputum.
Oral montelukast is helpful in chronic asthma. The purpose of this pediatric study was to investigate whether the addition of oral montelukast to standard therapy for acute asthma exacerbations results in further improvement in breathing function over three hours.
