A Study of Fluoroquinolones Exposure and Collagen-Related Serious Adverse Events

The purpose of this study is to evaluate whether there is an increased risk of achilles tendon rupture (ATR), retinal detachment (RD) or aortic aneurysm and dissection (AAD) following exposure to fluoroquinolone (FQ) or other antibiotics (amoxicillin, azithromycin, trimethoprim and trimethroprim/sulfamethoxazole) or febrile illness not treated with antibiotics, using a study design that minimizes the impact of confounders not usually captured in health services databases such as heredity or smoking.

Development of Ultra-Low Dose CT Based Screening for Aortic Aneurysms

Validation of Fenestrations Positioning by Numerical Simulation

Fenestrated endovascular repair (FEVAR) is nowadays a recognized option to treat juxtarenal, pararenal or suprarenal abdominal aortic aneurysms in patients at high risk for conventional repair. The technique consists in deploying a custom-made stent-graft (SG) inside the patient aorta. Part of the customization involves cauterizing a hole in SG fabric and reinforcing it with a Nitinol stent ring, thereby creating a fenestration for each corresponding collateral artery. For this reason, preoperative planning is crucial to determine adequate positions of fenestrations, in order to obtain perfect alignment with the collateral arteries of the patient. Inadequate positioning may result in failure to catheterize a collateral artery and subsequent organ damage, increased catheterizing time, increased irradiation dose, endoleaks… The current process of fenestrations positioning for fenestrated anacondaTM SG involves: (i) anatomical measurements on patient preoperative CT-scan by case planners using dedicated sizing software; (ii) designing an initial custom device scheme with its positioned fenestrations, created by engineers with CAD software using the above cited measurements and (iii) validation of fenestrations position by in vitro testing using a SG prototype deployed inside a transparent anatomy model (3D-printed model of patient aorta and collateral arteries). The main limitations of this process are the costs and long SG delivery time.

Treatment of Ruptured Intracranial Aneurysms in China.

Ruptured intracranial aneurysms is currently a common disease that seriously affects human health and quality of life due to its high morbidity,high mortality and high disability. At present,Ruptured intracranial aneurysms are treated with craniotomy clipping and interventional embolization ,but for ruptured wide-neck intracranial aneurysms, the treatment of craniotomy clipping and coiling embolization are not effective.With the improvement of endovascular treatment materials and techniques, three dimensional coil basket technique, double microcatheter technique, balloon assisted ONYX embolization, simple stent covered aneurysm neck, balloon or stent assisted neck remodeling and coil embolization are used in endovascular treatment of ruptured wide-neck intracranial aneurysms. The treatment methods are different in the intervention effect of ruptured wide-neck intracranial aneurysms, for example, the complications of interventional therapy are lower than craniotomy clipping,but the rate of well functional outcome (mRS ≤2) differed significantly by 3 months follow-up (65.0% vs.75.0%), and there is not standard of treatment in different parts of ruptured wide-neck intracranial aneurysms in our country, the choice of interventional therapy or craniotomy clipping are different in different clinical centers; on the other hand, there are serious problems in the treatment of ruptured wide-neck intracranial aneurysms, because without the relevant guidelines of diagnosis and treatment of ruptured wide-neck intracranial aneurysms, different clinical centers will cause excessive treatment of ruptured wide-neck intracranial aneurysms, not only bring unreasonable utilization of medical resources, but also cause the subject's life and property to be threatened. The patients with ruptured wide-neck intracranial aneurysms(n=1084) and unruptured intracranial aneurysms(n=300) were included in prospective cohort study, after interventional therapy and craniotomy clipping, setting fixed time for postoperative follow-up, the clinical data and image data were recorded, the safety, efficacy and economic benefits of interventional treatment and craniotomy clipping were compared, providing strategies for the standardized treatment of ruptured wide-neck intracranial aneurysms.

Pseudoaneurysm of the Greater Palatine Artery Following Autogenous Connective Tissue Gingival Graft : A Case Series

Gingival recession is defined as the apical migration of the gingival margin from the amelocemental junction. This condition may be associated with symptoms such as tooth hypersensitivity, root decay, and cosmetic complaints from patients. Many treatments have been used to treat gingival recession and the gold standard is the autogenous connective tissue gingival graft because of its predictability. This type of gingival graft is performed by harvesting connective tissue from patients' hard palate. Periodontists and general dentists frequently perform these gingival grafts. Occasionally, some patients develop postoperative complications that need to be addressed in an hospital setting. An uncommon but concerning complication of an autogenous connective tissue gingival graft is a donor site pseudoaneurysm of the greater palatine artery. No description of this complication following a gingival graft has been identified in the current literature. One case report mentioned that pseudoaneurysm of the greater palatine artery looks like a pulsatile nodule associated or not with pain on palpation. From the experience of the investigators, patients may consult an hospital setting having a complaint of major oral bleeding. Local hemostatic agents can palliate this type of bleeding, but angiographic embolization is often required. Several cases were treated in the investigators' hospital. Thus, the investigators believe it is relevant to share this experience with the scientific community. The primary objective of this case series is to inform dental professionals of the existence and the management of postoperative pseudoaneurysm of the greater palatine artery following autogenous gingival graft. The secondary objective is to find potential solutions to minimize the incidence of this morbid complication.

Patients with abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) suitable for endovascular aortic repair (EVAR) with Treovance were eligible to participate. Main inclusion criteria were: age 18-85 years; infrarenal AAA without significant infrarenal or distal iliac landing neck calcification or thrombus formation; infrarenal or distal iliac landing neck size requirements specified in the instructions for use. Main exclusion criteria: dissection/ruptured aneurysm or prior AAA endovascular or surgical repair. The primary endpoints were standard EVAR criteria.
