Filter by:With the introduction of technology into our lives, we come across two different anesthesia management modules in anesthesia machines. The first of these is the traditional method, the manual controlled anesthesia technique; the other is the automatic controlled anesthesia technique. In our daily practice, both anesthesia techniques can be used in patients who have undergone general anesthesia. These two techniques can be used in both high-flow anesthesia and low-flow anesthesia applications.
The purpose of the study is to compare Sphenopalatine ganglion block (SPGB) and aminophylline in the efficacy and safety management of PDPH.
High-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) oxygen therapy represents an open circuit ventilation system that uses flows up to 70 L/min of 100% oxygen through the Optiflow THRIVETM device (Fisher and Paykel Healthcare Ltd, Auckland, New Zealand). Compared to conventional oxygen therapy systems, the heating and humidification of the flows facilitate tolerability by the patient, allow to reach higher and more stable inspiratory fractions of oxygen, produce a flow-dependent effect of continuous positive airway pressure and by reducing dead space, have the potential to increase alveolar volume and improve gas exchanges. The use of HFNC is increased in anesthesia as the only airways management technique during short-term procedures under procedural sedation or general anesthesia. Operative hysteroscopy is a short-term procedure (<30 minutes), usually performed in a day-hospital regimen, under procedural sedation. In case of apnea and/or hypoventilation, or for long and complex hysteroscopic procedures, the patient can be ventilated through facial or laryngeal masks. The primary objective of this prospective randomized controlled trial is to compare the rate of success of ventilation using the THRIVE device to laryngeal mask ventilation during operative hysteroscopies under procedural sedation. Secondary objectives will be the comparison of the percentage of complications in terms of inability to manage the airways, episodes of hypotension, cardiac arrhythmias, post-operative nausea and vomiting, degree of dyspnea and comfort of the patient in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit between the two methods.
The aim of this study is to compare the analgesic efficacy of erector spinae plane block and quadratus lumborum block after abdominal hysterectomy surgery and postoperative opioid consumption.
Intrathecal morphine and fentanyl are used for anesthesia and perioperative pain management in caesarian section. Despite the fact that spinal Fentanyl is better tolerated, might not be enough for postoperative pain control. Morphine offers an improved analgesia but might be not tolerated due to a higher incidence of side effects, especially nausea and vomiting. This is a prospective, randomized, double-blind, parallel study including 80 parturients scheduled for elective CS. Spinal anesthesia is consisting in bupivacaine (7.5 - 10 mg in relation to height) and either fentanyl 25 mcg (F group) either morphine 100 mcg (m group). It will be assessed intraoperative and postoperative pain scores, the incidence of sides effects, patient's satisfaction and systemic opioids consumption.
The aim of this study is to evaluate the feasibility of the Pectoralis Nerve (PECS) block for CIED insertion.
Precision anesthesia is the current trend. The benefits including faster recovery, earlier return to normal activity, increased patient satisfaction and shorter length of stay. In order to avoid unnecessarily deep or too light anesthesia, processed electroencephalogram (EEG) monitors are applied for accurate assessment of the depth of anesthesia (DoA). Bispectral index (BIS) and PSI monitor are among the most widely used. Recently, density spectral array (DSA) has been developed to facilitate the interpretation of EEG signals. Real-time DSA EEG monitoring helps in detecting even subtle changes in the depth of anesthesia and provides more comprehensive information then simple digits. An emerging field of pharmacodynamics in anesthesia is the response surface models. They describe the interaction of different anesthetics during sedation or anesthesia. Our research team has developed the first comprehensive two-drug response surface models for midazolam and alfentanil during gastrointestinal procedural sedations. However, adequate anesthesia is often achieved with multiple drugs. Two-drug models thus have limited applications. We aim to extend the models into three-drug interactions where it can be used for a broader range of clinical scenarios. The main goal of the study is to establish and validate the three-drug response surface model by collecting and analyzing EEG parameters (BIS or PSI values, DSA, SEF95 (95% spectral edge frequency) and MF (Median frequency) ) from 60 patients undergoing general anesthesia for thoracic surgeries. We aim to establish the models that help anesthesiologist to achieve rapid emergence, appropriate analgesia, adequate DoA, and patient safety. The secondary aim is to apply this model to provide a guideline for drug dosage adjustment and improve the quality of anesthesia.
In this randomised, blinded study, we will investigate the influence of DSA on recovery from general anaesthesia. DSA monitoring provides continuous information on depth of hypnosis. Based on DSA monitoring dose adjustments of sevoflurane can be made. We expect that this will lead to a faster speed of emergence and recovery.
This study aims to assess the efficacy and safety of prophylactic intraoperative norepinephrine infusion versus the standard technique on decreasing the incidence of intraoperative hypotension in infants undergoing Kasai portoenterostomy operation.
As the dural puncture epidural (DPE) is increasing in popularity for labor analgesia, it is important to understand how it impacts outcomes in parturients. Prior studies have found epidural catheters placed via the combined-spinal epidural technique have greater success at surgical conversion for cesarean delivery than catheters placed via traditional techniques. The investigators aim to determine if epidural catheters placed by a DPE technique will also have an increased successful conversion for surgical anesthesia by conducting a retrospective review of all CD during the study period. If an association is found, this could be another benefit of DPE for labor analgesia.
