Filter by:The purpose of the study is to investigate the long-term effects of a personalized physical activity program on exercise capacity and quality of life in patients with stable cardiovascular disease. The analysis also intends to evaluate the prognostic value of cardiovascular function estimated through a walking test (1km Treadmill Walking Test, 1k-TWT) in relation to survival, hospitalization, and medical costs. The program considers clinical, socio-economic, and behavioural aspects, psychological support, and risk factor control. Patients receive indications for carrying out a home training program based on the performance of moderate-intensity aerobic activity at least 3-4 days a week for at least 30-60 minutes a day. All patients are also encouraged to improve their daily habits by preferring a more active lifestyle both at home and at work.
The purpose of this study is to assess the gastrointestinal responses of the elderly during hyperthermia.
The main objective of this clinical trial is to test the effects of the personalized intervention based on physical exercise, on clinical variables and circulating markers, in a population of employees of the University of Milan (UMilan). The HEBE study will include two phases: PHASE 1: All UMilan employees will be asked to voluntarily complete an anonymous online questionnaire, in order to gather information about their lifestyle (physical activity, diet, cigarette smoking, etc) (zero time: T0); at the end of the compilation, indications on how to improve the lifestyle will be provided. These indications will also be present and available for consultation in a special section of the site on the "HEBE" site, with UMilan domain (www.hebe.unimi.it). After 6 months, all UMilan employees will receive a second invitation to voluntarily complete the same questionnaire, in order to evaluate any changes, in terms of lifestyle improvement (time one: T1). PHASE 2: 100 eligible subjects who have expressed their availability in the initial questionnaire, will be identified to undergo a lifestyle improvement protocol based mainly on the prescription of a personalized exercise program, which will define modalities, intensity, duration, frequency and progression of the exercise. For each subject, at T0 and T1 (after 6 months), biological samples will be collected (blood, urine, saliva and nasal swab), which will be used to: i) set up a biobank shared by the members of the HEBE consortium; ii) identify biomarkers able to monitor the effect of physical exercise on the characteristics of the frailty under examination. Furthermore, both at T0 and T1 questionnaires will be completed and carried out clinical evaluations (anamnesis, physical examination, tests for the study of the autonomic nervous system, bio-impedance test, evaluation/estimate of maximal oxygen consumption, ECG).
The purpose of this study is to assess the impact of 3-days reduced physical activity (<1500 steps/day) with/without 'exercise snacks' (15 chair stands with calf raises every 30 min) on skeletal muscle metabolic health.
FLASH Study is a Post-Market Follow-Up PCMF designed to evaluate the tolerance and efficacy of STYLAGE Hydro by using a satisfaction questionnaire.
The goal of this clinical trial is to see how small blood vessels respond to the stress of high intensity exercise, and if a safe and simple intervention called ischemic conditioning can protect blood vessels from the stress of exercise. Participants will come in for 3 study visits and get home-based ischemic conditioning. At Study Visit 1, participants will be assessed for their frailty and physical function. Afterwards, they will perform an exercise test. At Study Visit 2, patients will undergo 2 microvascular assessments, perform a high-intensity exercise, then undergo the same 2 microvascular assessments again. Participants will be given a handheld sphygmomanometer and a blood pressure cuff to take home. Depending on which group the participants get randomized into, participants will place the blood pressure cuff around their non-dominant upper arm and inflate to either a low or high pressure for 2 weeks at home. Participants will repeat the same steps in Study Visit 2 for Study Visit 3. In addition, participants will also be assessed for their frailty and physical function.
The purpose of this study is to assess the anti-aging and reduction of dark circles efficacy of a cosmetic product after 8 weeks of application.
Aging is associated with changes in a wide variety of brain networks, including the default mode, saliency attention, and visual networks. Furthermore, current research suggests that a relationship exists between functional connectivity at rest and cognition. Lactocaseibacillus rhamnosus is an ideal strain for the intervention, as it has been show to affect the gut-brain axis, brain function, and behavior. Therefore, the investigators plan to assess resting state functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to compare changes in brain connectivity between the groups receiving the encapsulate and non-encapsulated Lactocaseibacillus rhamnosus supplements.
In recent years, the population of older adults (MA) in the world has been increasing, due to the increase in life expectancy and the decrease in the fertility rate. The United Nations (UN) places Spain as the most aged country in the world in the year 2050, with 40% of its population over 60 years of age. There is evidence that quality of life in the elderly is associated with variables linked to physical and psychological health. Thus, for example, previous research indicates that perceived health and cognitive functioning influence the perception of quality of life. The NESA XSIGNAL® device is a low-frequency, non-invasive neuromodulation device that uses microcurrents to restore electrical balance in the body. This technology is approved as medical equipment and is CE marked. This non-invasive neuromodulation equipment is starting to have promising results in patients with sleep disorders. So it can be a useful tool to reduce the impact on the geriatric patient's quality of life.
The occurrence of frequent falls influences the independence of the elderly's physical functions, and the factors related to falls include: weakness in the lower limbs, age, past injury experiences and so forth. Prolonged inactivity also increases the risk of falls, which is subsequently prone to bringing about other complications, which enhances the odds of falling again on the elderly. In the literature, training methods for the lower limbs were for the most part of complex training, whereas only a few studied on the single part training. In locomotion, the ankle first touches the ground, needing strong ankle muscular strength to support the body. Nevertheless, previous studies rarely mentioned whether a single ankle muscular strength could reduce the risk of falls. Traditionally, the training of ankle muscular strength practically utilizes elastic bands, and there are plenty of benefits confirmed in the literature. However, it is even harder to implement the operation in reality, especially in the elderly. To resolve this problem effectively, a new type of ankle training machine is added to this study. It can be adjusted to different levels of resistance, provide multi directional training, and allow the subjects to be trained in a sitting position achieving a stable state. In addition, this machine is easy to operate for the elderly. The aims of this research are: (1) to propose two different types of ankle training methods and designed a 6 week training programs, (2) to explore whether the training programs can improve muscular strength, balance capacity and gait function and (3) compare the training effects between the two types of ankle training methods. In this study, 60 voluntary old citizens, aged over 65, will be recruited, and they will be randomly divided into: 30 members in the Elastic Band Training Group (EBTG) and 30 members in the New Ankle Training Machine Training Group (NAMTG). During the six week workout plan, the subjects receive on site or online guidance from professional coaches every two weeks; meanwhile, coaches can affirm whether the plan is executed properly, confirming the effectiveness of the home training. Through these two groups of home ankle training programs with different interventional approaches lasting six weeks, the objective of the intervention is to boost muscular strength, balance ability as well as gait ability, meanwhile to decline the risk of falls and to reduce high medical expenses and care labor costs.
