Filter by:Acute onset vertigo is common and entails much suffering with persisting symptoms at 3 months after onset in up to half of those afflicted. Vestibular rehabilitation to aid recovery is not readily available. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects on vertigo symptoms of a 6-week online vestibular rehabilitation tool compared with standard care (written instructions leaflet) after acute onset vertigo.
Despite successful maneuver applications in the treatment of BPPV, complaints of balance problems and dizziness persist. Many studies supports the notion that virtual reality (VR) allowing visual-vestibular interaction with a large number of visual stimuli, contribute to successful outcomes in BPPV. VR applications using eye tracking algorithms and 'glasses' can be effective however. The research to date covers the VR technologies on the treatment of BPPV, however, there is no research comparing the effects of 2D and 3D VR gaming technologies with a control group. Therefore, this study aims to examine the effects of different virtual reality applications and vestibular rehabilitation on gait, reaction time, balance functions, activities of daily living, and quality of life in individuals with benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) having residual dizziness and balance problems.
Despite the growing research on Benign Paroxysmal Positioning Vertigo (BPPV), the impact and treatment efficacy on balance, physical activity (and consequently) frailty in elderly is lacking. Also, the added value of the video Head Impulse Test (vHIT) in this population has never been studied before. With insights gained from this research, we hope to contribute to an efficient treatment of BPPV in this growing population and to minimize its impact and healthcare burden.
BPPV is a benign condition of the balance organ, localized in the inner ear, in which calcium crystals loosen up and move freely in the endolymphatic fluid of the inner ear (more specifically in the semi-circular canals). During certain posture changes or head movements, these moving calcium crystals cause dizziness and balance problems. The general objective of the study is to evaluate the impact of BPPV on the balance of older adults in nursing homes. For this purpose, we will compare the balance of residents with BPPV with residents without BPPV. Furthermore, we will identify the impact of treatment on balance problems and fall risk in older adults in nursing homes.
Cervical reflex vertigo is a non-common cause of vertigo, caused by decreased afferent input from the upper three cervical segments to vestibular nuclei.
The recently emerged coronavirus named Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARSCoV-2) is the newest threat to human health. It has already infected more than half a million people worldwide, leading to a lot of deaths. Patients with Coronavirus Disease 2019(COVID-19) will experience high levels of anxiety and low sleep quality due to isolation treatment. Purposes: Was to investigate the effect of aerobics and balancing exercises on anxiety and dizziness in patients with COVID-19. Subjects: Thirty anxiety and dizziness patients with COVID-19 aged from 45-65 years of both sexes, randomly divided into two groups, selected from outpatient clinic ,General
In the Chinese Headache and Vertigo Registration Study, patients aged 4-99 years with headache (primary headache and secondary headache such as migraine and tension type headache), vertigo (vertigo diseases such as vestibular migraine) and chronic pain (fibromyalgia and other diseases) were collected. The biomarkers, imaging features, right-to-left shunt of the heart (lung), genetic characteristics, treatment, and outcome (in relation to other diseases) of headache-related diseases were studied, and long-term follow-up was planned.
The purpose of investigation is to assess the levels of metabolic factors (hydroxyvitamin D, homocysteine) between patients with vestibular dysfunction of peripheral origin (BPPV) and central origin (vestibular migraine). Also we will analyse another factors (such as anxiety and depression) and optimize therapeuthical approach accordingly with the data.
Objectives: To verify the effectiveness of a blended course in PC to improve adherence to clinical practice guidelines. Design: randomized community trial, by clusters (control group -CG- / intervention group -IG-) Scope: 20 PCT (primary care teams)(10 per group) Outcome variables will be: Diagnostic records (proportion of nonspecific diagnoses such as dizziness and vertigo, with respect to specific diagnoses such as BPPV, vestibular neuritis); Derivations to otorhinolaryngologist (ENT) and neurologist; Prescription of antivertiginous medications and Number of days off work caused by vertigo-related. Statistical analysis:Descriptive statistics of all the baseline variables will be carried out and, the differences between groups in the post-intervention outcome variables will be evaluated through the t-test. In the IG, a multivariate logistic regression model will identify response patterns based on the baseline variables of professionals and centers
In the VertiGO! trial 13 participants with bilateral vestibulopathy (BV) and severe sensory neural hearing loss in the ear to be implanted will receive a combined cochlear (CI) and vestibular implant (VI), capable of stimulating both the cochlear and vestibular nerves (CVI). The participants will make use of this combined stimulation during 3 weeks of prolonged use under supervision in a hospital environment. This trial will serve as a proof-of-concept for restoring vestibular function in patients with BV, an as-of-yet untreatable disorder causing severe impairment and discomfort. The aims of this trial are to investigate efficacy and safety of prolonged vestibular stimulation, to identify the influence of different stimulation algorithms, to assess the feasibility of the combined VI/CI device, to develop a VI rehabilitation program and to further build on the fundamental knowledge of vestibular organ stimulation while also taking into account the patient perspective.
