ANCA vasculitis and Sjögren syndrome are two rare diseases, and even more rarely associated. These two conditions have specific organ involvements, and specific follow-up. The Investigators hypothesise that patients with co-occurrence of these two diseases may have a singular clinical course.
Temporal artery biopsy is a useful tool helping to the diagnosis of giant cell arteritis. However, other diagnoses might be associated with abnormal temporal artery biopsy. The purpose of this study is to describe the frequency of giant cell arteritis differential diagnoses with positive temporal artery biopsy.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the clinical features and long-term outcome of anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-positive interstitial lung disease (ILD) and assess the difference between microscopic polyangiitis (MPA) associated ILD and isolated ANCA-positive idiopathic interstitial pneumonia.
This prospective study will assess if 12 months of vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) supplementation, in patients with AAV (GPA, MPA, and EGPA) who have deficient or insufficient 25(OH)D3 status at enrollment, correlates with improved disease activity and/or lower frequency of relapse (compared to historical data and a previously conducted cross sectional study (part I) that assessed vitamin D status in a cohort of similar patients).
Longitudinal imaging in patients with large vessel vasculitis to predict further disease course
This case control study aims to determine whether spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD) is associated with autoimmune diseases and to update the incidence of SCAD in a population-based cohort.
The purpose of this study is to determine whether plasma exchange as well as immunosuppressive therapy are effective in reducing death and end-stage renal disease (ESRD). The trial will also study whether a reduced cumulative dosing regimen of glucocorticoids is as effective as a standard disease regimen. The FDA-OOPD is one of the funding sources for this study.
Large vessel vasculitis (LVV) causes blood vessel inflammation leading to pain, fatigue and complications such as aneurysm formation and stroke. Treatments used can have significant side-effects. Doctors find it difficult to determine when to start and stop treatment, often leading to over- or under-treatment. A new test is required to determine disease activity that will guide treatment more accurately. This study will recruit participants with active LVV from throughout Scotland in order to assess the ability of two new types of scan - positron emission tomography with magnetic resonance imaging (PET/MR) and retinal optical coherence tomography (OCT) - to determine disease activity. In addition, I will investigate the link between LVV and heart disease.
TIPIC syndrome (previously called carotidynia) is a rare entity of unknown cause, where the patient has a temporary cervical pain associated with a suggestive inflammation around the carotid artery. Usually considered as a unique and benign episode, some patients have recurrences and the follow-up is usually short. In this study the investigators aim to evaluate patients who presented a TIPIC episode at least 3 months before, clinically and with a cervical doppler ultrasound
