Filter by:There is a high incidence of women suffering from Primary Ovarian Insufficiency (POI). One of the most common treatments for POI is hormone replacement therapy (HRT), but HRT doesn't work well, and it has been shown to increase the risk of blood clots in the veins, ovarian cancer, and breast cancer. The ability of MSCs to differentiate into oocyte-like cells has been previously documented. Herein the purpose of this work is to evaluate the therapeutic potential of cell therapy in women suffering from POI.
Background: - Noncirrhotic Portal Hypertension (NCPH) is caused by liver diseases that increase pressure in the blood vessels of the liver. It seems to start slowly and not have many warning signs. Many people may not even know that they have a liver disease. There are no specific treatments for NCPH. Objectives: - To learn more about how NCPH develops over time. Eligibility: - People age 12 and older who have NCPH or are at risk for getting it. In the past year, they cannot have had other types of liver disease that typically result in cirrhosis, liver cancer, or active substance abuse. Design: - Participants will have 2 screening visits. - Visit 1: to see if they have or may develop NCPH. - Medical history - Physical exam - Urine and stool studies - Abdominal ultrasound - Fibroscan. Sound waves measure liver stiffness. <TAB>- Visit 2: - Blood tests - Abdominal MRI - Echocardiogram - Questionnaire - Liver blood vessel pressure (hepatic venous portal gradient (HVPG)) measurement. This is done with a small tube inserted in a neck vein. - They may have a liver biopsy. - All participants will visit the clinic every 6 months for a history, physical exam, and blood tests. They will also repeat some of the screening tests yearly. - Participants with NCPH will also have: - Upper endoscopy test. A tube inserted in the mouth goes through the esophagus and stomach. - At least every 2 years: Esophagogastroduodenoscopy. - At least every 4 years: testing including HVPG measurements and liver biopsy. - Participants without NCPH will also have: - Liver biopsy and HVPG measurements to see if they have NCPH. - Every 2 years: abdominal MRI and stool studies. - The study will last indefinitely.
In this study, the investigators used the newly developed technique i.e. in vitro activation of dormant follicles (IVA) to promote ovarian follicle growth much more efficiently than natural, in vivo process for women with Primary Ovarian Insufficiency (POI).Firstly, the investigators remove one ovary under laparoscopic surgery. Then, we dissect ovarian cortex from the ovarian medulla. The ovarian cortex is cut into small cubes and cultured with medium containing drugs to activate dormant follicles. After 2 days of culture, the ovarian cubes are transplanted mainly beneath the membrane of Fallopian tubes under laparoscopic surgery. The ovarian cortex could be cryopreserve for future re-transplantation and in some cases, for convenience to arrange second surgery. Once frozen, the ovary can be preserved semipermanently. After transplantation, patients receive ultrasound monitoring together with measurement of serum hormone levels for 10-12 months. If growing follicles are detected, follicle growth is stimulated by injection of hormones (gonadotropins). Using the same "ovum pick up" approach used in IVF (in vitro fertilization), we pick up oocytes from the follicles and fertilize them. Fertilized eggs are cultured and then cryopreserved for future embryo transfer. Currently, we recurit patients diagnosed with POI, or Ovarian resistance syndrome (ORS). The procedure can also be: Only superficial cut of the ovarian cortex by laparoscopy or laparotomy, without taking ovary outside or cultured with medium.
The goal of this study is to compare the features of Turner syndrome in girls who are diagnosed before birth because of fetal concerns versus those who are diagnosed when their mother has an amniocentesis for another reason.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the long-term safety and effectiveness of growth hormone (Eutropin Inj./Eutropin plus Inj.) treatment with GHD (Growth Hormone Deficiency), TS (Turner Syndrome),CRF (Chronic Renal Failure), SGA (Small for Gestational Age), and ISS (Idiopathic Short Stature).
The purpose of this research study is to learn about brain development in very young girls with Turner syndrome (TS) and the effect that growth hormone (GH) therapy has on early brain development.
