View clinical trials related to Supraclavicular Block.
Filter by:The achievement of peripheral nerve block requires several needle passes, with each of them being at risk of causing nerve injury either by direct trauma or intraneural injection even with the use of the ultrasound. The ultrasound guided supraclavicular brachial plexus block is known to be at risk of pneumothorax and / or nerve injury. This study is designed to determine the maximal effective distance away from the nerve for the injection to be effective.
The patients included will be those who have already agreed to have a brachial plexus nerve block for surgery. A flip of the coin will decide who gets and additive called buprenorphine in their block or not. They will both contain the same amount and type of numbing medicine. The goal will be to see if the additive extends the life of the pain control portion of the ultrasound guided supraclavicular nerve block.
