Filter by:The performance of the eLab C-Reactive Protein, Procalcitonin, and Lactate Assays will be demonstrated during a method comparison study in which venous whole blood and plasma samples are used. eLab results will be compared to an FDA cleared predicate device. Demographic information will be collected for the subject. Venous blood will be collected in 2 Li-heparinized tubes (2-4ml per tube). One tube will be used for testing at the site and the second tube will be processed to plasma for storage and subsequent shipment to a designated testing site. Whole blood samples will be tested on the eLab C-Reactive Protein, Procalcitonin, and Lactate test as soon as possible after collection; testing on whole blood must be completed within 30 minutes of collection. A predicate Lactate test will also be run as soon as possible after collection; testing of WB on the predicate must be completed within 30 minutes of collection. Plasma will be separated from the whole blood via centrifugation within 30 minutes of collection and tested on the eLab C-Reactive Protein, Procalcitonin, and Lactate Assays and started on predicate CRP and PCT devices (If available at the site) within 30 minutes of the eLab whole blood test. The remainder of the plasma specimen and plasma from the second collection tube will be frozen within one hour of collection, then stored at approximately -20 degrees C or colder.
The aim of this study is to demonstrated efficacy of in-line filtration to reduce systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) ,specific organ dysfunction and complications in adult cardiac surgery. 486 patients undergoing cardiac surgery for acquired heart disease are 1:1 randomized into in-line filtration (study group) and non-filtration (control group). The incidence of SIRS, complications, daily SOFA (sequential organ failure assessment) score are compared between groups.
This trial aims to evaluate the accuracy of a Clinical Decision-Support System to support early recognition of SIRS in paediatric intensive care patients. This assessment will be rated by the primary goals, the sensitivity and specificity of the system. Two experienced paediatric intensivists, who are blinded for the CDSS results, will analyse the electronic patient file (EPF) for SIRS criteria and thus establish our Goldstandard. All SIRS events recognized by the CDSS during the patient's stay are taken into account and will be compared with the established Goldstandard. The secondary goal of this trial is to evaluate the CDSS-results with the assessment of SIRS by paediatric doctors during their routine work on the PICU.
Aim of the study is to evaluate to what extent a glycocalyx damage measured in the ER in patients presenting with sepsis correlates with their clinical course and if it can be used as a clinical stratification tool and mortality predictor. The study will focus on the changes of the microcirculation and how they correlate with the macrocirculation, as well as microbiologic parameters. In the study will participate ca. 300 patients with sepsis, as well as 30 patients without sepsis and 30 healthy individuals.
Severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) has a mortality of up to 42%. The outcome of SAP is related to the development of SIRS and consecutive organ failures. Due to the lack of a causative therapy except the removal of bile duct stones, therapy is predominantly symptomatic. With regard to a marked inflammatory response ("cytokine storm") during the early phase of SAP extracorporeal cytokine removal is a promising therapeutic approach. This prospective case control study investigates the impact of early extracorporeal cytokine adsorption with the CytoSorb®-device on haemodynamics (primary endpoint) and several secondary outcomes.

This observational study evaluates the impact of high and low chloride containing IV fluids on administrative and clinical outcomes. The study uses a large electronic health dataset and examines patients receiving fluid replacement and resuscitation. The hypothesis is that high chloride solutions are associated with adverse outcomes as measured by administrative data and by clinical parameters.
- With the underlying study the investigators address the question if Ninjurin-1 (Ninj1) expression is altered in patients with systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) in comparison to healthy volunteers. - The adhesion molecule Ninj1 is induced following nerve injury where it contributes to nerve generation. Besides it is described to facilitate leukocyte migration especially in the nervous system. - The investigators hypothesize that Ninj1 expression is increased in SIRS patients, which will fortify its impact during inflammation and the transferability from bench to bedside.
This is an observational study to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of presepsin levels to discriminate between sepsis and SIRS upon presentation with critical illness compatible with either sepsis or systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS).
