Filter by:This study capitalizes on an opportunity to formally evaluate local adaptations of "Keeping Foster and Kinship Parents Supported and Trained" (KEEP), an evidence-based foster parent intervention, to reduce mental health disparities among child welfare-involved youth and improve care quality and long-term outcomes for Native, Hispanic/Latino, Black/African American, and sexual and gender minority youth. The knowledge gained from the study will impact all current and future large-scale implementations of KEEP and will bolster our scientific understanding the impact of KEEP on youth mental health outcomes.
When in crisis, people with borderline personality disorder (BPD) frequently seek care in emergency departments (EDs) often presenting with suicide and self-harm behaviour. There is no established evidence-based brief intervention for patients with BPD in ED settings, however a 4-session psychotherapeutic intervention for people with personality disorders in ED settings was tested in Australia and showed promising results in reduced health care utilization. The proposed pilot randomized controlled trial will assess the feasibility of delivering this 4-session intervention in the ED for people with BPD who present with suicidal ideation or self-harm with the aim of reducing health care utilization.
Non-suicidal self-injury (NSSINSSINSSI) refers to a series of direct and consequently repeated injuries to one's body without suicidal intent. At present, it has become an important issue of mental disorders. This study is expected to complete a multi-center epidemiological survey of non-suicidal self-injury in China, and to study its pathogenesis and intervention methods.
At least one quarter of the 18 million persons in the US with intellectual and developmental disabilities engage in self-injurious behavior (SIB), which can result in injuries, disfigurement, and loss of function (e.g., blindness). SIB that persists in the absence of social reinforcement has been referred to as automatically maintained SIB (ASIB). Research has shown that the sensitivity of ASIB to disruption by alternative reinforcement is identifiable in a standardized assessment, predicts response to treatment, and provides a quantifiable basis for subtyping ASIB. This research has also identified two subtypes that are highly resistant to behavioral treatment using reinforcement alone, necessitating the use of protective equipment and other procedures to minimize injury. The proposed study is a clinical trial that will allow systematic comparison of the effectiveness of two behavioral treatments targeting treatment-resistant subtypes of ASIB.
