The Study of Pharmacokinetics of Levetiracetam in Patients Undergoing Intermittent Hemodialysis

Levetiracetam (LEV) is one of second-generation antiepileptic drugs that has been used to treat partial and generalized epilepsy. LEV is eliminated from the systemic circulation by renal excretion. Therefore, patients with renal impairment may experience a reduced drug excretion and increased adverse drug reactions. Moreover, patients with end-stage renal disease who need dialysis may experience low serum LEV concentration because of drug loss via dialysis. LEV loss via dialysis can cause low serum level of LEV that insufficient for seizure control. The present study was aimed to evaluate pharmacokinetics of LEV in patients undergoing 4 hour-intermittent hemodialysis (IHD). The results of the study may benefit to determine the appropriate LEV initial dose and supplemental dose for patients undergoing IHD.

Use of proton pump inhibitors has been associated with hypomagnesemia. However, various case-control or prospective studies have found conflicting results with regards to proton pump inhibitors use and development of hypomagnesemia. Our aim was to evaluate the likelihood that proton pump inhibitors contributed to severe hypomagnesemia in a retrospective cohort of patients admitted with severe hypomagenesemia. Oropharynx is the main source of pathogen microorganisms for the ventilator - associated pneumoniae. As known bacteriophages can eliminate different pathogen microorganisms or reduce a degree of a pathogen's colonization. The research team is considering that oropharyngeal decontamination with bacteriophages can prevent the developing of the ventilator - associated pneumoniae. There will be three groups in this investigation: placebo, antiseptic drug (Octenisept) and bacteriophage (Sexthaphag).

The Effect of Closed Suction System on the Incidence of Ventilator-associated Pneumonia.

The investigators are suggesting that closed suction systems may reduce the risk of the ventilator - associated pneumoniae (VAP) and the contamination of the closest unanimated surfaces. In 2011 David et al. have shown that closed suction systems might reduce the incidence of the late VAP. Research team is thinking that preventive bundle with closed suction systems can prevent to onset of the VAP. All enrolled patients is randomizing into two groups: control group - conventional suctioning and research group - suctioning with closed suction system.

Impact of Self-visualization of Epileptic Seizures on Patients' Perception of the Disease and Risk Behavior

In Spain, an estimated 690,000 persons have epilepsy, of whom 270,000 have active epilepsy (defined as those who have had a seizure in the last 5 years). It is estimated that 30% of patients diagnosed with epilepsy are drug-resistant. Patients with loss of consciousness or impaired awareness during seizures are at higher risk of injury due to accidents. To prevent such injuries, it is important that patients are sufficiently knowledgeable about their disease to allow them to avoid risk behavior. In this project, we want to know if visualization of self seizures has an impact on the perception of the severity of the disease, as well as on the risky behavior habits.
