Filter by:The Epilepsy Learning Health System (ELHS) is a quality improvement and research network to improve outcomes for people with epilepsy. The ELHS is designed as a model of value-based chronic care for epilepsy as envisioned by the National Academies of Medicine Committee in their landmark reports "The Learning Health System" and "Epilepsy Across the Spectrum: Promoting Health and Understanding". The ELHS network is a collaboration among clinicians, patients and researchers that promotes the use of data for multiple purposes including one-on-one clinical care, population management, quality improvement and research. The ELHS Registry includes data on children and adults with epilepsy collected during the process of standard epilepsy care. These data are used to create population health reports and to track changes in outcomes over time. ELHS teams use quality improvement methods, such as Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) cycles, to continuously learn how to improve care.
The researchers hope to explore the etiological distribution and influencing factors of KCNQ2-related neonatal convulsions or refractory epileptic encephalopathy, and to improve the level of assessment, identification, intervention and shunt of KCNQ2-related convulsions. To formulate countermeasures and measures for prevention, management and health education.
Genetic diagnosis for neonates suffering from epilepsy has important implications for treatment, prognosis, and development of precision medicine strategies. Investigator performed exome sequencing (ES) or targeted sequencing on neonates with seizure onset within the first month of life. Investigator subgrouped our patients based on the onset age of seizure into neonatal and before 1 year (1-12 months), to compare the clinical and genetic features and treatment strategies.
The purpose of this study is to incorporate multidimensional self-management programs into the routine care of epilepsy patients. Consenting patients will enroll in one of four interventions that help improve medication adherence, increase seizure awareness and documentation, improve memory and deal with stress and depression.
The purpose of this protocol is to learn about movement intention and volition. To improve such knowledge, investigators will conduct sub-studies using multiple non-invasive methodologies. These results could provide preliminary data for subsequent studies evaluating local and global efficacy of plasticity-inducing treatments for PMD symptoms.
This study examines the use of an online social media platform (PatientsLikeMe) to assist Veterans with epilepsy. The hypothesis is that the online social media platform, PatientsLikeMe, will improve selected patient-reported outcomes on perceived self-management skills for patients who engage in the website functions.
Epilepsy is a chronic neurologic disorder characterized by seizures. Beside seizures people suffering from epilepsy experience several challenges related to education, work and everyday life such as learning-, problem-solving-, memory-, concentration-, attention difficulties and fatigue. It is generally approved that physical activity (PA) has a positive effect on physical as well as mental factors. However, people with epilepsy are found to be less active and PA is rarely offered or recommended as supplement to anti-epileptic medical treatment. Few studies have investigated the effect of PA in subjects with epilepsy and additional studies of high methodical quality are needed to enable evidence-based information and counselling. This study is carried through as a randomized controlled trial which investigates the effect of participation in a 10-week cardio exercise program in people with Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy aged 15-50. The study hypothesis is that participation in a 10-week cardio exercise program will induce a positive change in cognitive function (concentration and attention) and possibly in brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF). In addition it is expected that the intensity and duration of the 10-week cardio exercise program is sufficient to cause changes in physiological parameters related to a reduced risk of lifestyle diseases.
