Technology Assisted Physical Activity Among Hospitalised Patients With Respiratory Disease

The aim of this study is to investigate if patients hospitalised for medical disease will increase their time spent out of bed during hospitalisation through simple feedback about physical activities from a mobile device. Physical activity is measured by means of a pair of accelerometers embedded in band aids placed on the thigh and on the chest. The measurement is continuous and data is uploaded to a secure internet-server. Summaries of physical activity (bedrest, sitting, standing, walking) is computed and can be displayed on a mobile device (tablet) through a dedicated application. The study will be conducted as a controlled cohort study in a large tertiary public hospital in Copenhagen, Denmark. Patients admitted to Department of Respiratory Medicine will be included and will have their physical activity measured during hospitalisation. Half of the cohort will receive visual feedback about the amount of physical activity from a mobile device placed on the bed table. A total of 108 patients will be included resulting in 6 periods of 18 patients each.

This Phase 3 study is intended to assess the clinical lot-to-lot consistency in manufacturing by evaluating and comparing the immunogenicity of three consecutively manufactured lots of the Quadrivalent Virus-Like Particles (VLP) Influenza Vaccine, during the 2016-2017 influenza season, in healthy adults 18-49 years of age. A single dose of one of three consecutive lots of Quadrivalent VLP Influenza Vaccine (30 µg/strain) will be administered to 1,200 participants.

This study is related to a previous study, Clinicaltrials.gov ID: NCT02924467. There are some modifications in relation to the intervention arms as well as the use of a different cohort, thereby justifying the second submission to Clinicaltrials.gov. This trial is taking place in New York State, through partnership with the New York State Health Department (excluding New York City), and Colorado. Each state will have it's own Clinicaltrial.gov submission -- this was decided as some of the intervention components are different enough that separate registrations were warranted. Despite U.S. guidelines for influenza vaccination of all children starting at 6 months, only about half of children are vaccinated annually leading to substantial influenza disease in children and spread of disease to adults. A major barrier is that families are not reminded about the need for their children to receive influenza vaccination. The investigators will evaluate the impact of patient reminder/recall (R/R) performed by state immunization information systems to improve influenza vaccination rates by using 4 clinical trials (2 per state) in two different states. The investigators will assess effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of 1) autodialer R/R 2) text messages R/R 3) mailed postcard R/R as compared to 4) standard of care control (no R/R).

A Study to Test if the Vaccine is Working Well in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Patients Aged 40 to 80 Years Old to Reduce Episodes of Worsening Symptoms and to Gather Further Information on Safety and Immune Response.

The purpose of this study is to test if the vaccine is working well in COPD patients aged 40 to 80 years old to reduce episodes of worsening symptoms ("exacerbations") and to gather further information on safety and immune response. In the current study, COPD patients with a history of acute exacerbations will receive 2 doses of the investigational vaccine or placebo intramuscularly according to a 0, 2 month vaccination schedule, in addition to standard care. The effect of vaccination against two pathogens known to cause exacerbations (Non-typeable Haemophilus influenza [NTHi] and Moraxella catarrhalis [Mcat]) will be evaluated at pre-defined timepoints (scheduled study visits). In addition to the scheduled study visits, additional study visit(s) and/ or phone contact(s) will take place for each acute exacerbation of COPD occurring from first vaccination up to study conclusion.
