NCT ID: NCT03954314 Terminated - Bleeding Clinical Trials

DEPOSITION - Decreasing Postoperative Blood Loss by Topical vs. Intravenous Tranexamic Acid in Open Cardiac Surgery

DEPOSITION
Start date: September 17, 2019
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

The aim is to conduct a double-dummy multi-centre randomized controlled clinical trial of application of topical dose of tranexamic acid (TxA) versus the usual intravenous TxA in patients undergoing on-pump cardiac surgery.

NCT ID: NCT03885193 Completed - Clinical trials for Cardiac Surgical Procedure

Impact of HMS Plus Device on Postoperative Blood Loss During Cardiac Surgery

POC/HMS
Start date: May 1, 2019
Phase:
Study type: Observational

Activated clotting times (ACT) is employed most commonly to assess anticoagulation and ensure adequate heparin and protamine dosing during cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). However, many studies have demonstrated a lack of correlation between plasma heparin levels and ACT during CPB. HMS Plus device estimate the free plasma heparin level from a whole-blood sample and also include the dose of protamine necessary to neutralize the circulating heparin at the end of CPB. It could predict a higher heparin dose and lower protamine dose but it's interest on postoperative bleeding and perioperative transfusion is unclear.

NCT ID: NCT03805607 Active, not recruiting - Postoperative Pain Clinical Trials

IV Ketorolac on Platelet Function Post-Cesarean Delivery

KetoPltAgg
Start date: January 18, 2021
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

Cesarean delivery has become the most common surgical procedure in the US. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) have been shown to improve the quality of post-cesarean analgesia and markedly reduce opioid consumption. The effect of NSAIDs on healthy volunteers results in inhibition of platelet aggregation and prolonged bleeding time. However, in the obstetric population, the presence and degree of platelet inhibition after NSAID exposure is less clear. The investigators plan to use Platelet Aggregometry and Thromboelastography (TEG) to evaluate the effect of ketorolac on platelets.

NCT ID: NCT03793816 Completed - Postoperative Pain Clinical Trials

Tonsillectomy Using BiZactâ„¢ - a Randomized Side-controlled Clinical Trial

Start date: September 1, 2019
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Tonsillectomies are frequently followed by severe postoperative pain, hence high analgetics consumption and prolonged hospitalization. Also, postoperative hemorrhages can be hazardous. Constant evaluation of surgical techniques is paramount to improve safety and cost-effectiveness. Frequently tonsillectomies are performed in cold steel technique. Aim of this study will be the evaluation of handling, surgical time, postoperative pain and postoperative hemorrhage rates using the BiZactTM-Device in comparison to traditional techniques on the contralateral side. In one patient, two different techniques will be used. The primary objective will be the surgical time. Regardless of surgeon handedness, surgeons will randomly be assigned to either start with the left or right tonsil, and randomly either to start with the BiZactâ„¢ Device or with "cold steel" methods. Additionally, time to stop bleeding, intraoperative blood loss, tonsil mobility, device handling, as well as wound healing will be assessed.

NCT ID: NCT03647930 Completed - Seroma Clinical Trials

The Effect of Arista on Post-Operative Bleeding and Wound Drainage Following Mastectomy

Start date: May 15, 2012
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Study aim was to evaluate topical MPH on the risk of post-mastectomy seroma formation as measured by total drain output and total drain days.

NCT ID: NCT03622671 Completed - Clinical trials for Coronary Artery Disease

Fibrin Clot Properties and Blood Loss Following Coronary Artery By-pass Grafting

Start date: September 26, 2018
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Up to 15% of operations in cardio-pulmonary by-pass are complicated by excessive postoperative blood loss, which negatively affects the outcomes. Recently, it has been demonstrated that fibrin clot susceptibility to lysis is a modulator of postoperative blood loss after cardiac surgery for aortic stenosis. Earlier, a preliminary study showed a negative association of postoperative blood loss after coronary artery by-pass grafting (CABG) with fibrin clot lysis time, reflecting susceptibility to fibrinolysis. In CABG, postoperative blood loss may depend on the operative technique with respect to left internal mammary artery (LIMA) harvesting. LIMA is taken down in virtually all CABG procedures, but harvesting technical details remain at surgeons discretion (skeletonization without opening the pleural cavity vs. pedicled graft with pleura wide open). The investigators decided to test the hypothesis that fibrin clot properties modulate the postoperative drainage following CABG strongly enough to attenuate the influence of surgical technique by randomizing the patients undergoing CABG with regard to LIMA harvesting technique.

NCT ID: NCT03555383 Completed - Liver Transplant Clinical Trials

Individualized Multimodal Hemostasis Evaluation Pyramid (IMHOTEP)

Start date: August 1, 2017
Phase:
Study type: Observational

This study evaluates the hemostatic changes defined as hemostasis reserve capacity (HRC) in the first perioperative 48 hours of bloodless liver transplanted patients.

NCT ID: NCT03515525 Completed - Hematoma Clinical Trials

Analysis of Hematoma Following Breast Surgery

Start date: March 1, 2018
Phase:
Study type: Observational

A retrospective review of patients who developed hematoma following breast surgery from 2003 to 2018 in a single institution was performed. The study investigated the value of closed-suction drains regarding the quantity and quality of fluid secretion for the prediction of subcutaneous hematoma in patients undergoing breast surgery procedures.

NCT ID: NCT03444792 Completed - Clinical trials for Post Operative Hemorrhage

Mechanical Dilatation of the Cervix at Elective Caesarean Section to Reduce Post-Operative Blood Loss

Start date: February 10, 2018
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

obstetric hemorrhage remains one of the major causes of maternal death in both developed and developing countries. Because of its importance as a leading cause of maternal mortality and morbidity, and because of evidence of substandard care in the majority of fatal cases, obstetric hemorrhage must be considered as a priority topic for national guideline development. Some obstetricians believe that the cervix of women at non-labor cesarean section is undilated and might cause obstruction of blood or lochia drainage, leading to postpartum hemorrhage and endometritis from the collection of lochia or debris. Dilatation of the cervix helps with the drainage of blood during postpartum, reducing intrauterine infection or the risk of postpartum hemorrhage. To avoid this problem, some obstetricians routinely dilate the cervix from above during an elective/ non-labor cesarean section using finger, sponge forceps or other instruments

NCT ID: NCT03376061 Completed - Bleeding Clinical Trials

Decreasing Postoperative Blood Loss by Topical vs. Intravenous Tranexamic Acid in Open Cardiac Surgery

DEPOSITION
Start date: December 21, 2017
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

The aim is to conduct a double-blinded single-centre randomized controlled clinical trial of application of topical dose of tranexamic acid (TA) versus the usual intravenous TA in patients undergoing cardiac surgery at the Hamilton General Hospital. This pilot study will assess the feasibility to perform a large randomized international trial exploring this objective.
