NCT ID: NCT03102840 Active, not recruiting - Clinical trials for Streptococcus Pneumoniae Infection

Understanding Pneumococcal Carriage and Disease 2017-2020

Start date: June 26, 2017
Phase:
Study type: Observational

Streptococcus pneumoniae is a type of bacteria that is carried (lives) in the nose of most individuals and can sometimes go on to cause severe infections such as meningitis and pneumonia. There are over 100 types of pneumococcus, and children in the UK have been routinely immunized against pneumococcal disease since 2006. A vaccine against 13 types of pneumococcus (PCV 13) was introduced into the UK in 2010, replacing a previous version that prevented 7 types. Pneumococcal carriage in the Thames Valley region has been studied over the last 7 years with carriage rates having been shown to be reflective of potential severe pneumococcal disease and hence vaccine effect. The main purpose of this study is to see whether the pneumococcal immunization program has changed the frequency and nature of pneumococcal bacteria carried by children, as this may give a clue as to what changes in pneumococcal disease are likely to be seen in the future. In addition, this study is especially timely given the possibility of a change in the PCV 13 immunization schedule that is currently being assessed in the 'Sched3' Immunization study (NCT02482636). Obtaining accurate baseline data will be important in informing the interpretation of any subsequent data on carriage rates obtained following introduction of the new schedule. This study will enrol up to 1600 children aged 13 to 48 months living in the Thames Valley and South Midlands and which have had three doses of 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine. In addition, up to 800, 6-12 month old children who have received a priming dose of PCV13 will be recruited. The study consists of one visit done at a convenient venue (GP surgeries, educational/ play settings, or home) where a single nasal swab and an optional finger-prick blood sample for a sub-set of 632 participants, will be performed. No additional follow-up is needed. The study recruitment period will be from 2017 onwards.

NCT ID: NCT03095326 Completed - Thalassemia Clinical Trials

Pneumococcal Vaccination for Splenectomised Thalassemia Major Patients in Indonesia

Start date: September 1, 2013
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

Splenectomized thalassemia major subjects were provided with PCV pneumococcal vaccine (Prevenar 13®) at the start of the trial, following which they were randomly assigned to 2 groups (zinc and placebo group). After 8 weeks, the subjects received PPV pneumococcal vaccine (Pneumovax®). Zinc syrup was provided to the zinc group at a dose of 1.5 mg/kg/day (maximum of 50 mg/day). Pneumococcal IgG examinations were conducted at the start of the trial and after 12 weeks.

NCT ID: NCT03069703 Completed - Clinical trials for Invasive Pneumococcal Infection

Innovative Anti-pneumococcal Vaccine Strategies in Patients With ANCA-associated Vasculitis Receiving Rituximab Therapy

PNEUMOVAS
Start date: February 5, 2018
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

The study hypothesis is that a "reinforced" pneumococcal combined vaccine strategy in patients with ANCA-associated vasculitides treated with rituximab will induce a better immune response than the current standard regimen, with an acceptable safety profile. This study therefore aims at evaluating the immunogenicity and safety of two "reinforced" innovative pneumococcal vaccine regimen [one double dose at day0 and one double dose at day7 or a quadruple dose of 13-valent anti-pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13) followed by one dose of 23-valent unconjugated vaccine (PPV23) at month 5], compared to the standard regimen (one dose of PCV13 followed by one dose of PPV23 at month 5), in patients with ANCA-associated vasculitides receiving rituximab therapy.

NCT ID: NCT02987972 Completed - Clinical trials for Pneumococcal Infections

A Study to Evaluate the Safety, Tolerability, and Immunogenicity of Two Lots of V114 in Healthy Infants (V114-008)

Start date: March 21, 2017
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

This study is designed to evaluate the safety, tolerability, and immunogenicity of two different lots of V114 in healthy infants 6 to 12 weeks (>=42 days to <=90 days) of age. The primary hypothesis of the study is that the proportion of participants receiving V114 who have serotype specific IgG >=0.35 mcg/mL for each of pneumococcal serotypes 1, 3, 4, 5, 6A, 6B, 7F, 9V, 14, 18C, 19A, 19F, and 23F at 1 month after Dose 3 is non-inferior to that for recipients of Prevnar 13™.

NCT ID: NCT02972281 Terminated - Clinical trials for Pneumococcal Infections

Systematic Search for Primary Immunodeficiency in Adults With Infections

SPIDAC
Start date: March 2015
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Antibody deficiencies and complement deficiencies are the most frequent Primary immunodeficiencies (PIDs) in adults, and are associated with greatly increased susceptibility to recurrent and/or severe bacterial infections - especially upper and lower respiratory tract infections and meningitis. The literature data suggest that PIDs are under-diagnosed in adults. The current European and US guidelines advocate screening adults for PIDs if they present recurrent benign especially upper and lower respiratory tract infections, or if they have experienced at least two severe bacterial infections and/or have a recurrent need for intravenous antibiotics. The objective of the demonstrate the interest of PIDs screening in adult patients who present such recurrent infections and/or after the first severe bacterial infection, especially when the patients do not present with known, etiologically relevant comorbidities.

NCT ID: NCT02955160 Completed - Clinical trials for Pneumococcal Infections

Study type: Interventional

This is a Phase 1 first-in-human, randomized, controlled, observer-blinded study with a 2-arm parallel design. Healthy adults aged 18 to 49 years of age with no history of pneumococcal vaccination will be randomized equally to receive either a single intramuscular dose of multivalent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine or a licensed tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis combination vaccine (Tdap) (control group).
