Cefepime is a broad-spectrum antibiotic used in treating CAPD peritonitis. However, medical knowledge has been lacking with regard to its pharmacokinetic profile after it has been administered intraperitoneally. The current study aims at determining the drug level at different time after the drug has been added into the peritoneal fluid in patients with CAPD peritonitis. The results of this study will finally leads to rational prescription of this drug at correct dosages.

Norfloxacin In The Primary Prophylaxis Of Spontaneous Bacterial Peritonitis

Advanced liver disease and low ascitic fluid protein concentration have been identified as risk factors for spontaneous bacterial peritonitis in cirrhosis. Moreover, renal impairment and hyponatremia increase mortality rate of this infection. Aims: To investigate if oral administration of norfloxacin prevents the first episode of SBP, hepatorenal syndrome and improves survival in cirrhotic patients with ascites and low protein concentration in ascitic fluid (<15 g/L) and at least one of the following inclusion criteria: functional renal failure (serum creatinine ≥ 1,2 mg/dl or BUN ≥ 25 mg/dl), hyponatremia (serum sodium ≤ 130 mEq/L) or advanced liver disease (Child ≥ 9 points with serum bilirubin ≥ 3 mg/dl). Methods: Prospective, multicenter, randomized, double-blind placebo controlled trial comparing oral norfloxacin (400 mg/d; n=35) with placebo (n=35).

Study Comparing Tigecycline Versus Ceftriaxone Sodium Plus Metronidazole in Complicated Intra-abdominal Infection

This is a phase 3b/4 randomized, open-label, comparative, multicenter study of the safety and efficacy of tigecycline to ceftriaxone sodium plus metronidazole in hospitalized subjects with cIAI (Complicated Intra-Abdominal Infection). Subjects with clinical signs and symptoms of cIAI will be included for enrollment. Subjects will be stratified at randomization for Acute Physiologic and Chronic Health Evaluation scale (APACHE II) score < 10 and > 10. Subjects will be followed for efficacy through the test-of-cure assessment. Safety evaluations will occur through the treatment and post-treatment periods and continue through resolution or stability of the adverse event(s).
