Transdermal Neuromodulation for Management of Chronic Pelvic Pain in Women

Background: Chronic pelvic pain (CPP) significantly impacts the quality of life in women. This study investigated the effects of transdermal neuromodulation in females with CPP. Trial Design: Parallel, randomized, single-blind, controlled trial The aim of the study will be to examine the effect of posterior tibial nerve stimulation on women with idiopathic chronic pelvic pain syndrome. Methods: Thirty females with chronic pelvic pain will be randomly allocated 1:1 to receive either transdermal neuromodulation of the posterior tibial nerve (intervention group) or advice to control posture (control group) for 4 weeks at the Outpatient Physical Therapy Clinic at Kafrelsheikh University in Egypt. The primary outcome was pain intensity measured by visual analog scale (VAS). Secondary outcomes were serum cortisol level and quality of life (QOL) score. Assessments will be done at baseline and after 4 weeks.

Clinical Observation of Ningmitai Capsule in Treating Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome With Erectile Dysfunction

Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of Ningmitai capsule alone or in combination with sildenafil compared with sildenafil alone in the treatment of CP/CPPS with erectile dysfunction. Study Design: A multicenter, prospective, randomized and positive drug-controlled clinical study design was adopted. Interventions: ① Western medicine group (sildenafil): Sildenafil citrate, 25mg/capsule, once a night, one capsule each time, for 4 weeks. ② Chinese medicine group (Ningmitai capsule): Ningmitai capsule, 0.38 g/capsule, 3 times a day, 4 capsules each time, taken after meals for 4 weeks continuously. ③ Combination group (Ningmitai capsule + sildenafil): Ningmitai capsule, 0.38 g/capsule, 3 times a day, 4 capsules each time, taken after meals; Sildenafil citrate, 25mg/capsule, once a night, one capsule each time, was taken continuously for 4 weeks.

Pelvic Pain Education and Skills Training for Women Veterans

The goals of this pilot randomized clinical trial are three-fold: 1) to test the feasibility of conducting a larger randomized trial using a brief Acceptance and Commitment Training (ACT) group intervention for women veterans with pelvic pain compared to usual care; 2) assess treatment acceptability by women veterans, and 3) identify appropriate pain-related treatment outcomes for the larger randomized trial. Participants will be randomly assigned to participate in either the ACT condition or treatment as usual condition, complete three surveys (before, after, and 3-months after first survey), and complete a phone interview (if assigned to the ACT condition). Researchers will compare the ACT condition and treatment as usual condition to see if there are meaningful differences in health outcomes. Due to the small sample size and pilot nature of this study, significance testing will not be performed.

The purpose of this study is to examine the feasibility of adding pre-rehabilitation pelvic health physical therapy to standard of care radiation therapy treatment plan for female patients who have been diagnosed with cervical, vaginal, vulvar, uterine, or anal cancer and are a candidate for curative pelvic radiation with external beam. Participants will receive education on using a vaginal dilator for use during treatment and complete questionnaires looking at pain and sexual function.

Optimal Frequency Used in Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) for Treating Pelvic Pain in Adults

TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) is accepted as a standard treatment for chronic pelvic pain, but the best settings to recommend, including frequency of stimulation, have not been defined to date. This study aims to find the optimal frequency, also known as cycles per second or Hertz (Hz) for treating chronic pelvic pain using non-invasive skin-level electrical nerve stimulation. The investigators will see how people respond to (20Hz, 50Hz or 100Hz). The study will have a two week control period (one week that looks back retrospectively at the week prior and another week looking prospectively at the patient symptoms) with no TENS unit and the participants normal standard of care treatments. This will be followed by 2 weeks of active TENS treatment for 30 minutes a day at the most painful time of day for the participant. The participant will also be allowed to extend their trial to study for durability for up to 3 additional months after the initial study. Participants will be asked to fill out a VAS (visual analog scale), GUPI (genitourinary pain index) and TENS usage log weekly.
