Can B12 and Folate Levels Predict HPV Penetration in Patients With ASCUS?

Non-classified atypical squamous cells (ASCUS) is the most common abnormal cervical cytology (%39). The risk of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia 2-3 is 5% and the risk of carcinoma is around 0.1% after diagnosis. Mostly human papillomavirus (HPV) is responsible for this transition. Most of them are transient, but some infections become persistent and can progress into precancer and invasive cancer. In the process of progression to cancer; patients with cell cycle problems are thought to be at risk. In some studies, B12 and folate deficiency, which play a role in DNA synthesis and repair, have been shown to induce incorrect binding of uracil to DNA, leading to DNA breakage and repair disorder. Therefore, in this study, it has been aimed that the relation of presence of atypical squamous cells and HPV persistence with folate and vitamin B12 levels which effect on immune system.

Comparison of Cervical Pathologies in the Presence of High Risk Hpv Positivity

The only malignancy screening test among gynecological cancers is cervical cancer. Cytology examination and Hpv typing with smear are used as screening tests. Hpv positivity is detected in more than 90% of cervical cancers. However, only the Hpv 16-18 type positive patients undergo colposcopy in the routine screening program. Patients with Smear negative, Type 16-18 high-risk Hpv positivity are evaluated by quota after 1 year. the authors performed colposcopy with this study; authors aimed to compare the results of patients with type 16-18 Hpv positivity and type 16-18 high-risk Hpv positivity and to find out whether there was any difference between them. In this way, other high-risk Hpv types other than type 16-18 (31,33,35,45,51, etc.) may be exposed to premalign cervical lesions and possible cancer in a number of earlier and earlier periods by performing colposcopic examination instead of expecting to perform quota after 1 year. we aimed to remove.

The Human Papilloma Virus Effect on Sexual Life

Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) is one of the most common causes of sexually transmitted diseases and its link with malignancies is well established, especially with anogenital tract cancers (cervical, vaginal, vulvar, anal cancers). HPV 16 and 18 are the most commonly isolated HPV types in cervical cancer, however not all infections with HPV 16 or 18 progress to cancer. After the HPV test has been used in cervical cancer screening, there have been concerns about whether women carry this virus. Although HPV testing may cause negative emotional responses, adverse emotional responses are related to HPV infection rather than testing. In this respect, there were several studies which evaluated the quality of life and psychological responses of women with positive HPV test results and it is known that positive HPV test results cause additional anxiety, distress and negative emotional responses in women. We hypothesized that the awareness of having a sexually transmitted infection in women with HPV and, therefore, a close follow-up and the need for further investigation such as colposcopy can affect their sexual life. In this study, we aimed to observe the changes in sexual function and anxiety of the HPV positive women with validated objective tools after being informed about their co-test results.

High and Low Resource Interventions to Promote HPV Vaccines

Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is a significant public health issue affecting nearly 14 million people in the United States. HPV can lead to cervical, oropharyngeal, anal, and penile cancers as well as genital warts.The purpose of this study is to test the comparative effectiveness of two interventions, AFIX only vs. AFIX + communication training, to increase Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination rates among adolescent patients in outpatient clinic settings. Providers and staff at four pediatric practices will be randomized to receive an in-person AFIX consultation or an AFIX consultation combined with communication training and commitment poster displays. Provider and parent data will be collected via a tablet computer RedCap survey. Additional practice and provider level HPV vaccination rates will be collected via patient de-identified claims data. The results of this study could contribute to the existing body of literature that suggests provider recommendations and routine vaccination assessments are key to increasing HPV vaccination uptake. This project has the potential to lead to the implementation and dissemination of low resource interventions to increase HPV vaccination rates among children and adolescents.

Increasing Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Vaccine Uptake Via General Health Messaging

Background: Prevention of cervical cancer and genital warts could be achieved by immunization with the prophylactic human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines commercially available. However, in the U.S. only 38% of females and 14% of males in the recommended age group (9-26 years) receive the complete, three-dose HPV vaccine. Because the HPV vaccine is covered under the Vaccine for Children Program, the underinsured and uninsured have no-cost access. Nonetheless, data from Los Angeles county suggest that HPV vaccination rates among the uninsured and underinsured groups are significantly lower than the national average, likely related to knowledge of the vaccine, transportation, number of doses and concern of side effects. Aim: To evaluate the efficacy of health oriented text messaging to increase HPV vaccine uptake versus standard health messaging (Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) HPV vaccine information flyers). Hypothesis: The investigators hypothesize that receiving general health messaging, including messages regarding the benefits of the HPV vaccine, will increase HPV vaccine uptake. Text messaging will also be more successful in reaching the uninsured and underinsured populations than will traditional flyers/information pamphlets used in clinics. Methods: A cluster randomized trial design will be used to recruit participants from four clinics in Los Angeles County which offer pediatric vaccination to uninsured and underinsured children. The sample will include women aged 18-45 years of age. Two of the sites will be randomized to the text messaging arm and the other clinic will be randomized to the control arm (standard messaging: CDC flyers and pamphlets available for patients at the clinic). Outcome measures will be HPV vaccinations rates at those clinics. Rates will be defined into groups who received 1 dose, 2 doses and 3 doses. Anticipated Results: The investigators expect to find statistically significant higher HPV vaccination rates among children and women in the text messaging study arm compared to the control arm. Implications and Future Studies: This pilot study will give us preliminary data to submit a larger randomized controlled trial to examine the efficacy of text messaging.

HPV Message Testing and Social Media Campaign

This project involves a social media campaign to increase parent's knowledge and acceptance of the HPV (human papillomavirus) vaccine. The current vaccine protects against nine types of HPV, including seven that are known to cause cancer. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that the current HPV vaccine could prevent 90% of cancer cases caused by HPV, including cases of cervical cancer, oropharyngeal (mouth and throat) cancer, anal cancer, and others. About 150 and 104 cases of HPV-associated cancers are diagnosed each year in New Hampshire and Vermont, respectively-many of which could be prevented through vaccination. Currently, only 49.8% of New Hampshire adolescents and 44.3% of Vermont adolescents were not up-to-date for HPV vaccination as of 2016. This social media campaign is testing a set of campaign messages with parents locally and nationally to see which messages are most effective in improving their knowledge and acceptance of the vaccine. A study survey link will monitor the number of people reached and will measure parental intention to get their children vaccinated against HPV.
