Filter by:The Investigator would like to study the effect of yoga exercises and meditation on lung volume, respiratory impedance, 6-minute walk distance and quality of life in COPD patients.
The study is experimental and aims to (a) compare the viscoelastic properties of bronchial secretions obtained in patients suffering from obstructive respiratory disease, and (b) to compare the viscoelastic properties of bronchial secretions obtained in patients before and after application of a respiratory physiotherapy or exercise as usually prescribed. After agreement, the sputum of the participants will be collected according to the method used in clinical routine.Experiments (collection and analysis of sputum) will be conducted at the Saint-Luc University Clinic.
The evidence for poor inhaler technique is both well established and observed worldwide. What is unclear from the evidence is why individuals demonstrate poor technique, despite the majority admitting to having previously had instruction on inhaler technique. The primary research question is 'Will there be a difference between post education inhaler technique scores when comparing structured education against informal education?' To try and establish why individuals use inhalers incorrectly a semi structured interview is proposed
