Filter by:Background: TMS stands for transcranial magnetic stimulation. It is a non-invasive way to stimulate the brain. It helps researchers study the nervous system. TMS can assess central motor conduction time (CMCT). That can be used to diagnose some diseases. It can also show how well treatments are working. Researchers want to study the records of people who have already had TMS. They want to see how it relates to the results of diagnostic studies. Objectives: To study the results of transcranial magnetic stimulation in certain neurological disorders. To create a descriptive analysis of the results. Eligibility: Records that are already in the NINDS database Design: The study will not enroll any participants. Researchers will search the database for certain terms. These include TMS, CMTC, and motor evoked potentials. This will identify records of people who had TMS for diagnosis. Using data from the records, researchers will calculate CMCT. They will note other data that relate to CMCT. Researchers will analyze their findings. They will write a review article. Personal data will be removed from all the records before the findings are analyzed.
Transverse-plane foot deformities are a frequently encountered issue in children with neurological disorders. They are the source of many symptoms, such as pain and walking difficulties, making their prevention very important. It is thus important to prevent the occurrence of transverse-plane foot deformities and limit their development regarding the high risk of morbidity. In order to prevent such deformities, in the department of pediatric physical medicine and rehabilitation department of Lyon, since 2001 the investigator use a side pole static ankle foot orthosis (SPS AFO) in children with a neurological disorder predisposing such deformities. The aim of the study this study is to describe the use, tolerability and potential side effects of this orthosis in children with neurological disorders from the investigator's department
The current study has the following objectives: 1. To determine additional stroke patient (SP) and stroke caregiver (SC) factors including their perceptions of the stroke experience, hospitalization, and how they cope with its challenges; identify additional appropriate points to intervene (maladaptive coping styles, unrealistic expectations, inappropriate prioritization, misinformation about illness, and self care), and assess SP and SC preferences for the structure, mode of delivery (including potential for phone, video or a combination of these) and timing of an intervention. 2. To develop, [using the preliminary data and information from aim 1], and test the feasibility and acceptability (primary outcomes) of a skills-based intervention for preventing chronic depression, anxiety, PTSD and decreased QoL in dyads at risk.
Background: - People with motor neuron disorders have changes in the parts of the brain that control movement. Some tests that are currently used to study these changes are magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). We don t know if MRI scans and TMS give the same results if done at different times in the same person. Researchers want to see if these tests produce different results if given to healthy adults on two separate occasions. Objectives: - To test the reliability of different tests of the brain used to study motor neuron disorders. Eligibility: - <TAB>Healthy individuals at least 35 years of age who have no history of neurological disorders and take no medications. - <TAB>Pregnant women may not participate. Design: - Participants will be screened with a medical history and physical exam. - Participants will have two testing visits 1 to 6 months apart. - The first visit will have three parts. The first part is a neurological exam to test strength, sensation, reflexes, and coordination of movement. The second part will be TMS tests. The third part will involve an MRI scan to study the parts of the brain that control movement. - At the second visit, participants will have MRI scanning only.
