Combining chemotherapy and radiation therapy together with bone marrow transplant may allow the doctor to give higher doses of chemotherapy drugs and kill more cancer cells. PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying how well giving bone marrow transplant from an unrelated donor together with cyclophosphamide and total-body irradiation works in treating patients with hematologic cancer.

RATIONALE: Interleukin-2 may stimulate a person's white blood cells to kill cancer cells. PURPOSE: Phase I trial to study the effectiveness of interleukin-2 in treating patients with myelodysplastic syndrome.
RATIONALE: Antifungal therapy with liposomal nystatin may reduce fever and neutropenia in patients undergoing treatment for hematologic cancer. It is not yet known whether liposomal nystatin is more effective than standard amphotericin B in treating patients with fever and neutropenia who are receiving chemotherapy for hematologic cancer or bone marrow transplantation for leukemia. PURPOSE: Randomized phase III trial to study the effectiveness of liposomal nystatin compared with standard amphotericin B to treat fever and neutropenia in patients receiving chemotherapy for hematologic cancer or bone marrow transplantation for leukemia.
RATIONALE: Bone marrow and peripheral stem cell transplantation may be able to replace immune cells that were destroyed by chemotherapy or radiation therapy used to kill cancer cells. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of T-cell depleted bone marrow and G-CSF stimulated peripheral stem cell transplantation in treating patients with leukemia, lymphoblastic lymphoma, myelodysplastic syndrome, or aplastic anemia.
