Filter by:The purpose of this study is to learn how safe and effective zavegepant is compared to placebo in the acute treatment of migraine in Asian adults. Migraine is a very painful headache with other associated symptoms such as nausea, photophobia and phonophobia. A placebo is a harmless treatment that has no medical effect. This study is seeking for participants who: - have at least 1 year of migraine history before entering the study. - have 2 to 8 migraine headache attacks of moderate or severe intensity in each of the 3 months before entering the study. - have less than 15 days with headaches in each of the 3 months before entering the study. The headaches could be either due to migraine or not. The participants in this study will receive zavegepant or placebo through intranasal route. Intranasal means medicine which is given through nose. Zavegepant or placebo will be taken if the participants have a migraine headache of moderate or severe intensity. The study will compare the experiences of people receiving zavegepant to those of the people receiving placebo. This will help see if zavegepant is safe and effective in Asian adults. Participants will be in this study for up to about 16 weeks. Participants will have 3 study visits at the study clinic and 1 through telephone contact.
The goal of this randomized clinical trial is to evaluate two different non-drug, virtual treatment options designed to improve the lives of patients with migraine. Both interventions involve 8 weekly sessions and an online platform with additional content and learning. Participants can stay on all their medications during this study. Information from this study may help determine how to better treat migraine.
The goal of this pilot randomized control trial is to assess the feasibility of our patient recruitment and data collection strategy ahead of a full scale RCT investigating the efficacy of oral v. parenteral medications in the management of acute migraine headaches in the emergency department. Patients will be randomly assigned to receive either (A) standard medical therapy for the treatment of acute migraine headache (metoclopramide and ketorolac IV) and oral placebo or (B) oral metoclopramide and ibuprofen with normal saline IV. Primary outcome measures are recruitment rate and improvement in pain score at 60 minutes from medication administration.
People with chronic migraine headaches face many challenges, including high levels of daily pain, disturbances to everyday activities and sleep, and problems with mood such as depression or anxiety. This trial is being completed to study whether changing an individual's behaviors may have an impact as a treatment for migraine headaches. Eligible participants will be randomized to one of the four arms. This study will be conducted remotely without in-person contact. Study Hypothesis: - There is a main effect of attending either the Empowered Relief and Health Education intervention on reductions in migraine-related disability 1 month after completing either intervention - There is a main effect of Empowered Relief and Health Education interventions on reducing pain-related catastrophizing and migraine symptom severity 1 month after completing either intervention (secondary hypothesis) - The expected reductions in migraine-related disability, pain catastrophizing, and migraine symptom severity will be maintained at secondary time points (2 months, 3 months, and 6 months after completing either intervention) (secondary hypothesis)
Migraine is a very common condition characterised by frequent severe headaches that are very debilitating. Although the frequency and severity does reduce as patient's age, particularly above the age of 70, in younger and working age people this condition has a significant impact on people's lives. Patients with migraine are typically diagnosed and managed in primary care, but can also be treated by neurologists. Recently, NHS England has published guidance for clinical staff to optimise patient management: reduce admissions to hospital for migraine and improve the setting in which patients are seen. One recommendation is the increased use of headache diaries by patients. These may help patients and doctors to improve migraine diagnosis and its treatment, for example by identifying if there are triggers for getting a migraine attack. With technological advancements, there are now computer/phone applications (Apps) that can be used instead of a paper diary. The Curelator N1 Headache App is one of such migraine specific Apps. In this study, the investigators aim to evaluate if primary care migraine patients are open to using a digital headache diary App, and how compliant users of the App will be. The investigators also aim to assess patient feedback on the use of the N1 Headache App, and if its use aids them in the management of their migraine.
In the literature, research into the examination of the effect of MLD on migraine is quite limited. Our study aimed to examine the effectiveness of manual lymph drainage and connective tissue massage treatments on neck pain and disability, sleep quality, pain threshold and severity, depression and quality of life.
Background: Migraine is a common neurological disorder that also has a significant prevalence in children. Although the exact etiology of migraine is unknown, recent studies suggest an association between intestinal flora and migraine, and tryptophan metabolism is an important link between intestinal flora and the nervous system. However, the role of tryptophan metabolites in childhood migraine is not fully understood. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the specific role of tryptophan metabolites in childhood migraine. Study objectives: The main objectives of this study were to assess the changes in tryptophan metabolites in childhood migraine and to explore their relationship with migraine attacks. Specific objectives include: 1. to determine the differences in tryptophan metabolites between children with migraine and healthy children; 2. to explore the correlation between tryptophan metabolites and migraine attacks 3. to assess the potential mechanisms of the role of tryptophan metabolites in childhood migraine. Study methods: 1. participant recruitment: a certain number of pediatric migraine patients and healthy children were recruited as controls. 2. data collection: clinical information, medical history, and blood samples were collected from participants. 3. Tryptophan metabolite analysis: using appropriate experimental techniques, ELISA Statistical analysis: The main analyses included the following: 1. comparison of differences in tryptophan metabolites between migraine and control groups, using t-test or Wilcoxon rank sum test. 2. To assess the value of tryptophan metabolites in the diagnosis of migraine, ROC curve analysis was used to calculate the sensitivity, specificity, and AUC. 3. To explore the factors associated with tryptophan metabolites and migraine, multiple logistic regression analysis was used to assess the risk and protective effects of each factor on migraine. Experimental hypothesis: Our experimental hypothesis was that tryptophan metabolites may play a key role in the pathogenesis of childhood migraine, particularly kynurenine (KYN), quinolinic acid (QUINA), and kynurenic acid (KYNA). We hypothesized that in pediatric migraine patients, the concentrations of tryptophan metabolites would change significantly compared to healthy children. We further hypothesized that the concentrations of certain tryptophan metabolites correlate with the frequency and severity of migraine attacks. Based on these hypotheses, our study will examine tryptophan metabolite concentrations in blood samples and perform a comparative analysis between pediatric migraineurs and healthy children. We will also explore the correlation between tryptophan metabolites and migraine attacks and determine their risk and protective role in childhood migraine through multiple logistic regression analysis. Outlook: The results of this study are expected to reveal the important role of tryptophan metabolites in the pathogenesis of migraine in children and provide a new basis for the diagnosis and treatment of migraine in children. In addition, the study may also provide theoretical support for the development of relevant therapeutic strategies and interventions, and provide new ideas for the prevention and management of migraine in children.
This investigation describes a proposed clinical trial that will evaluate the relative efficacy of intravenous magnesium sulfate for the treatment of migraine compared to intravenous metoclopramide (Reglan) and intravenous prochlorperazine (Compazine) in the treatment of acute headache and migraine in adult patients. The ultimate objective will be clinical application of these drugs in the emergency department for the treatment of acute headache and migraine. The two phenothiazines (metoclopramide and prochlorperazine) have been routinely utilized in the treatment of acute headache and migraine in the emergency department setting. Per the 2017 American Headache Society guidelines, both intravenous metoclopramide and intravenous procholorperazine are recommended as "clinicians should offer" agents with level B evidence. Of note, there are no agents with level A evidence purported by this guideline for acute management of migraine. The same guideline offers "no recommendation can be made regarding the role of intravenous magnesium for adults who present to the ED with acute migraine. However intravenous magnesium may be of benefit to patients who present with migraine with aura." Multiple trials have evaluated intravenous magnesium's safety and efficacy in the management of acute migraine. These have demonstrated the tolerability of intravenous magnesium on a with breadth of patients. Most commonly the primary adverse event was flushing which self-resolved. No cases of hypotension were reported. None of these study agents have been withdrawn from the market.
This is a real-life, observational, single-center cohort study to describe the efficacy of prophylactic treatment in patients after failure of at least 2 prophylactic treatments. Patients included in the study will be followed up in consultations or day hospitals according to their usual care, and will be asked to complete the MIgraine Disability Assessment (MIDAS), Headache Impact Test short-form (HIT-6), Patient Global Impression of Change (PGIC), Hospital Anxiety and Depression (HAD) scale and Work and Personal Activities Impairment (WPAI) questionnaires at each visit. Data describing their care will be extracted from computerized patient records.
Migraine is a debilitating illness and a major cause of disability in the world. It is highly prevalent, especially among women. Vitamin supplementation is a potential therapeutic option for migraines that remains largely under-explored. Several studies have shown that people with migraine tend to have higher arterial stiffness than people without migraine. Vitamin K2 deficiency is an important mediator of arterial stiffness and calcification due to decreased carboxylation of matrix Gla protein (MGP). Supplementation reverses these changes and improves vascular health in patients with end stage renal disease according to previous studies. Therefore, vitamin K2 supplementation could serve a potential role in migraine patients. The purpose of the study is to test the effect of vitamin K2 on decreasing the frequency of migraine attacks and decreasing arterial stiffness. The population will be recruited from the neurology clinic at LAU Medical Center-Rizk Hospital and will constitute of adult patients. They will be randomized to receive either the supplement of vitamin K2 or a placebo for the duration of 6 months. Laboratory tests and arterial stiffness measurements will be done at the beginning, middle, and at the end of the study for comparison.
