View clinical trials related to Melatonin Deficiency.
Filter by:This RCT study aims to compare effectiveness physical exercise and melatonin supplement on treating sleep disturbance in children with ASD. A four-arm randomized controlled trial with equal allocation ratio to the three intervention groups (i.e., jogging; melatonin supplement, combine jogging and melatonin supplement) and one placebo-control group will be conducted . Actigraph device and sleep log will be used for sleep assessment. 6-sulfoxymelatonin from 24-h and first morning urinary samples. The investigators will monitor the changes of four sleep parameters (sleep onset latency, sleep efficiency, wake after sleep onset and total sleep duration) and the 24-h and first morning melatonin level throughout the whole study.
Preterm infants are at risk of free radical mediated diseases from oxidative stress (OS) injury. Melatonin (MEL) is a powerful antioxidant and scavenger of free radicals. In preterm neonates, melatonin deficiency has been reported. Several studies tested the efficacy of melatonin to counteract oxidative damage in diseases of newborns such as chronic lung disease, perinatal brain injury, necrotizing enterocolitis, retinopathy of prematurity and sepsis, giving promising results. In these studies, the dosages of melatonin varied over a wide range. The present study was designed to test the hypothesis that oral administration of melatonin reduced OS and consequentially, the occurrence of intraventricular haemorrhage (IVH), necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) and bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) in preterm newborns.
This randomized cross-over double-blinded trial aims to investigate the health effect of oral l-tryptophan supplementation on workers who rotate night shift work, and to examine the influences of different frequencies and timings of supplementation on the health effects.
Background: The aim of the study was to assess the role of melatonin in chronic dyspepsia in this group of women, with consideration of Helicobacter infection. Methods: The study comprised 152 subjects Including 30 healthy women (group I), 60 women with asymptomatic H.pylori infection (group II), and 64 women H. pylori infected with chronic dyspepsia(group III). Endoscopic examination, histological assessment of gastric end duodenal mucosa, urease breath test(UBT-13C), and serum levels of 17-β-estradiol, follicle stimulating hormone, melatonin and urinary concentration of 6-sulfatoxymelatonin were determined by immunoenzymatic method. In group III - 14-day antibacterial treatment was introduced with pantoprazole, amoxicillin and levofloxacin. Afterward, in 32 women was administered placebo(group IIIa), and in 32 women (group IIIb) melatonin at a dose 1 m/morning and 3 mg/at bedtime, for six months.
