Filter by:Measles is a highly contagious disease which can result in severe complications in some patients. Healthcare workers have a higher risk of getting measles than the general population because of their increased risk of exposure from patients with measles attending hospitals. Having had measles in the past or at least one dose of the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine provides protection (immunity) against measles. UK government guidelines therefore recommend that healthcare workers and non-clinical staff with direct patient contact are fully vaccinated or have other evidence of immunity. Yet, evidence from recent measles outbreaks suggests that some healthcare workers are not immune or do not know if they are immune, with implications for containment efforts, cost and transmission. The purpose of this study is to identify barriers and facilitators to uptake of the MMR vaccine among healthcare workers at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (KCH). KCH healthcare workers will be eligible to take part in the study if they are aged 18 and over and have direct contact with patients. In addition, the research will focus on four subgroups of healthcare workers at KCH: those who are not immune, those who have not completed the full vaccination schedule, those who don't know their immunity status, those received the vaccine only after joining KCH. The latter may provide insights into facilitators to vaccine uptake. Measles immunity forms part of the occupational health screening at KCH. A series of semi structured interviews lasting approximately 1 hour will explore participants' experiences of the occupational health vaccine screening process and measles vaccine campaigns at KCH; why they are unvaccinated/not fully vaccinated/do not know if they are immune/decided to be vaccinated after joining KCH; and what measures or interventions may help healthcare workers when deciding whether to get the MMR vaccine.
To evaluate the Immunogenicity and Safety of Shanghai Institute of Biological Products Co., Ltd.'s Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) Vaccine Compared to a Licensed and WHO Prequalified GSK MMR Vaccine in Healthy African Children, 9-11 Months of Age.
Provision of SQ-LNS also holds promise in incentivizing vaccination as well as other health services. The investigators will estimate 1) the effectiveness of a SQ-LNS mass supplementation program added to routine immunization program compared to routine immunization program alone in terms of measles vaccine coverage, after 12 months of program implementation, 1) in children aged 12-23 months in the end line cross-sectional household survey, 2) in children aged 6-12 months at inclusion, in a longitudinal 12 months follow-up survey. Secondary objectives are to assess the barriers and facilitators from the perspectives of parents/legal guardian of children, health care providers and community health workers and to assess the cost-efficiency of the This study will be implemented in 20 wards covering the Karasuwa and Nguru Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Yobe state, Northeast Nigeria. This is a pragmatic parallel cluster randomized trial (PCT) with baseline measure with different populations and data collection modes: 1) baseline and end line cross-sectional household surveys of children aged 12-23 months, 2) a longitudinal follow-up survey (LS) of children aged 6-12 months at inclusion, 3) a qualitative feasibility and acceptability survey of parents of children aged 6-23 months, of health providers, of community health workers and community representatives and 4) a cost survey of parents/legal guardian of children from the longitudinal follow-up cohort, and 5) a health facility cost survey of a randomized subsample of health facilities. Clusters will be randomly allocated at a ratio of 1:1 either to the standard arm or to the NutriVax arm: - The standard Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) in children aged 6-23 months delivered according to the Ministry of Health's routine plans in the community and at health centres and health posts, named the standard EPI arm; - The NutriVax program combining the EPI in children aged 6-23 months according to the Ministry of Health's routine plans in the community and at health centres (i.e. PHCCs) and health posts associated with SQ-LNS mass supplementation integrated into pre-existing services delivered at health centres (i.e. PHCCs) for children 6-23 months of age, named the NutriVax arm.
This is a phase IV, randomized, controlled, open-label study proceed in healthy children aged 8 months in China. The primary objective is to demonstrate the immunogenicity of simultaneous administration of JEV-I and MMR is not inferior to that of separate administration, as measured by seroconversion rates and antibody titers against the four antigens. The secondary objective is to describe the safety of the vaccines when administered simultaneously or separately.
This cluster randomized controlled trial (RCT) aims to evaluate the feasibility and efficacy of an educational toolkit in enhancing measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) and polio vaccine confidence in the Philippines. The toolkit contains four aspects: an introduction to MMR and polio vaccines, vaccine safety and efficacy, vaccination guidelines (including schedules and locations), and debunking myths and misconceptions. Presented as a 10-minute video and followed by reminder messages from health educators, the toolkit was developed in collaboration with International Care Ministries (ICM) health educators and translated into local dialects. Our toolkit will be embedded in a RCT called the Soap Opera Trial, which is designed and run by the ICM leveraging their community-based Transform Program. The standard Transform Program consists of 15 weeks of education sessions delivered by local health educators through traditional lectures in each community. The trial aims to evaluate the impact of a variation to their standard Transform Program, which uses aspirational videos to deliver education about food security, livelihood, and health. The soap opera to be shown in the video includes drama and plot twists similar to a typical television show but highlights lessons about income creation, health care, and resilience, which are key behaviors and outcomes that can help the poor lift themselves out of poverty. The ICM will conduct this RCT to assess the impact of these soap opera videos on outcomes such as aspirations about the future. A total of 180 communities participating in the Transform program will be randomly assigned to one of the two arms. In the intervention arm, the participants will receive our vaccine toolkit intervention (including educational video and reminding messages about MMR and polio vaccines) and 15 soap opera videos alongside standard Transform Program, while participants in the control arm will receive the standard Transform Program, in which the education sessions are delivered through lectures. The effectiveness of the toolkit will be evaluated by 1) the rate of MMR and polio vaccination among children of the Transform Program participants and 2) knowledge and attitudes towards these vaccines among the participants. Additionally, the relevance, applicability, and feasibility of the toolkit will be assessed using qualitative research methods, and cost-effectiveness of the intervention will be assessed.
The goal of this observational study is to investigate the effects of measles virus (MeV) infection on pre-existing immunity, vaccine response, and susceptibility to subsequent illness in children aged 1-15 either with or without acute MeV infection.
Eligible participants were randomly assigned (1:1:1), using block randomization stratified, to either 3 groups. Group 1 will be immunized inactivated SARS-CoV-2 vaccine and varicella vaccine in day 0 followed by measles-mumps-rubella vaccine(MMR) in day 28. Group 2 will be immunized varicella vaccine in day 0 followed by SARS-CoV-2 vaccine and MMR in day 28. Group 3 will be immunized inactivated SARS-CoV-2 vaccine in day 0 followed by MMR and varicella vaccine in day 28. Vaccines were administered 28 days apart, with blood samples taken on day 0 and day 28 before vaccination, and on day 56. Local and systemic symptoms and serious adverse events following immunzation were collected.
Measles, a highly contagious disease, is potentially serious in adult allogenic hematopoietic stem cell transplant (allo-HSCT) recipients. Because of the loss of immunity to vaccine preventable diseases after allo-HSCT, French Health Authorities (Haut Conseil de Santé Publique, HCSP) recommend (re)vaccination of all allo-HSCT recipients against measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) from 24 months post-transplant onwards, in the absence of graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) and at least 3 months after cessation of all immunosuppressive treatments, irrespective of measles serostatus. Nevertheless, some French experts argue that systematic assessment of measles antibody titre is justified after allo-HSCT, prior to revaccination, in order to avoid "unnecessary" revaccination of allo-HSCT recipients who are still seropositive. At the international level, recommendations also vary: the ECIL group and IDSA advocate revaccination of measles seronegative patients only, while some American Hematology experts recommend not to base the decision of revaccination on the serological status, given the inevitable loss of antibodies and specific long-term immune memory in the absence of revaccination. Several obstacles to the application of the recommendations can therefore be identified: (i) the risk of vaccine-transmitted disease due to the live-attenuated nature of MMR, (ii) the lack of robust data on the immunogenicity and tolerability of the MMR vaccine in this particular population, and (iii) conflicting recommendations to guide the decision of revaccination. This study aims at answering the question of whether some allo-HSCT recipients may retain a measles-specific cellular immune memory at distance from their allo-HSCT.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the immunity of persons fully vaccinated against measles, mumps and rubella and to examine the course of immunity after booster vaccination.
The goal of this study is to measure the accuracy of a new measles rapid test when used in clinical health centres in several regions of Senegal. The rapid test will be used to test patients for measles who attend the participating health centres with signs and symptoms suggestive of measles infection. The rapid test can be used with a drop of blood from a finger, or oral fluid sampled with a swab rubbed over the gums. The rapid test will be compared to the standard methods of diagnosis in the laboratory using blood samples and oral or throat samples taken for surveillance purposes. The main questions the study aims to answer are: 1. What is the accuracy of the rapid test when used with capillary blood (a drop of blood from the finger tip) in health centres by non-laboratory health professionals? 2. What is the accuracy of the rapid test when used with oral fluid by non-laboratory health professionals? In addition to measuring the accuracy of the test, data will also be collected on whether the test is easy and practical to use and how best to record the results.
