NCT ID: NCT06120855 Recruiting - Cannabis Use Clinical Trials

Study on Regulated Cannabis Sales in Pharmacies

SCRIPT
Start date: November 22, 2023
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Though regulated cannabis sales are increasing, little is known about the individual health effects of cannabis regulation. Data from countries with a regulated market can be used to test the effect of regulation on the price of cannabis in the illicit market, and to explore its effect on social and health outcomes at the societal level, but strength of evidence for individual health and social outcomes is more limited because it must be aggregated on a state or country level. Data on individual and social outcomes should include baseline measurements before and outcome measurements after regulations changed. In this context, randomized-controlled trials are the least biased source of data on the effects of interventions. The SCRIPT study aims to investigate the individual health and social impact on recreational cannabis users who are allowed to purchase authorized, regulated cannabis from Swiss pharmacies compared to users who buy cannabis on the illicit market. Participants are randomly allocated in one of the two groups and followed-up for 6 months. After 6 months, all participants are allowed to participate in the intervention and the cohort is followed up for another 18 months. The intervention includes various offers: Participants can choose between cannabis sorts and delivery methods, and they are encouraged to shift from smoking cannabis to vaping cannabis-containing e-liquids, vaporizing cannabis blossoms or using oral cannabis. Vaping / vaporizing electronic devices are also recommended. At the same time, pharmacists offer opportunistic smoking cessation and problematic cannabis, alcohol use and further drug use counseling that conforms to motivational interviewing principles. The SCRIPT study adheres to rigorous quality criteria for the production and storage of regulated cannabis products. Only vaping / vaporizing electronic devices which are validated to reduce exposure to toxicants compared to cannabis smoking are recommended.

NCT ID: NCT03909477 Recruiting - Cannabis Use Clinical Trials

Longitudinal Study of Xenon-129 MRI Imaging Effects of Cannabis Smoking

Start date: June 1, 2022
Phase:
Study type: Observational

This is a longitudinal study of the long-term health impact of cannabis smoking on the lungs. Participants will be followed over a period of 3 years, and impacts of cannabis smoking on the lungs will be measured with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) using hyperpolarized xenon-129 gas, pulmonary function tests, exercise capacity, computed tomography images and questionnaires.

NCT ID: NCT03518567 Completed - Marijuana Smoking Clinical Trials

Behavioral Economic Analysis of Demand for Marijuana

Start date: October 15, 2018
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

This laboratory study will employ a multi-session experimental design to examine the behavioral economic demand for marijuana, by studying effect of marijuana administration (High THC) on demand for marijuana, and marijuana smoking topography. The study will recruit 100 non-treatment seeking marijuana users who smoke marijuana at least twice weekly.

NCT ID: NCT01863095 Completed - Marijuana Smoking Clinical Trials

An Exercise App to Reduce Young Adults' MJ Use

Start date: October 2014
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Currently, marijuana (MJ) is the most popular illicit drug, but there are few effective interventions to help young adults (age 18 to 25 years) to reduce their MJ intake. In this study, we will develop and initially test a smart phone app designed to promote exercise/physical activity as a positive alternative to MJ use. The app will be tested in an efficacy study in which MJ users are randomly to either receive personalized feedback about MJ use + use the exercise app or personalized feedback only. The results will contribute to knowledge about exercise/physical activity as a strategy for reducing young adults' MJ use and problems.

NCT ID: NCT01536899 Completed - HIV Positive Clinical Trials

Medical Marijuana Use in HIV+ Patients Prospective Cohort Study

MMC-1
Start date: February 2012
Phase:
Study type: Observational

The investigators are interested in understanding personal factors such as medical conditions and mental health, as well as social and economic factors, that influence marijuana (and other substance) use in HIV-positive patients. Several alternative hypotheses will be evaluated in the proposed project: 1. healthier patients may self-select marijuana use; 2. marijuana use may be associated with consequences that create barriers to seeking healthcare; 3. marijuana use may have medicinal value that reduces the need for such care.

NCT ID: NCT01394185 Completed - Marijuana Smoking Clinical Trials

Effects of Dronabinol (Oral THC) on Cannabis Use

Start date: February 2011
Phase: Phase 1/Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

Study participants received dronabinol (0, 120mg/day and 240mg/day) for 12 consecutive days in a randomized order. During each dronabinol maintenance period they were able to self-administer active or placebo cannabis using either a progressive ratio schedule or choice between cannabis and monetary alternative.

NCT ID: NCT01081119 Completed - Alcohol Drinking Clinical Trials

Brief Voluntary Alcohol and Drug Intervention for Middle School Youth

CHOICE
Start date: September 2008
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

We are currently working in 16 middle schools across Los Angeles, Santa Monica and Torrance to test out a voluntary after school program called Project CHOICE, which focuses on helping students decrease their alcohol and drug use. We are conducting surveys in all schools over three years and providing the intervention in 8 schools in the 2008-2009 school year and in the other 8 schools in the 2011-2012 school year. This is a program we have provided before in middle schools and we found that it was effective in curbing alcohol and drug use among students who voluntarily attended and among all students at the intervention school.

NCT ID: NCT01025700 Completed - Marijuana Smoking Clinical Trials

Nabilone & Marijuana Addiction

Start date: June 2009
Phase: Phase 2/Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

Safety of Nabilone in reducing marijuana craving

NCT ID: NCT00743366 Completed - Marijuana Smoking Clinical Trials

Effect of Quetiapine on Marijuana Withdrawal and Relapse

Start date: August 2008
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

The objective of this study is to investigate the interaction between marijuana and quetiapine, with the goal of using this information to improve marijuana treatment outcome. It is hypothesized that quetiapine will decrease marijuana withdrawal and relapse. Primary outcome measures will be 1. marijuana's direct effects 2. marijuana withdrawal syndromes 3. marijuana relapse. It is also hypothesized that marijuana withdrawal will be associated with increased levels of stress hormones. A secondary measure will be salivary cortisol.

NCT ID: NCT00743145 Completed - Marijuana Smoking Clinical Trials

Effects of Low-dose Naltrexone in Combination With a Range of Smoked Marijuana

Start date: May 2008
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

In heavy marijuana smokers, opioid receptor blockade increases the subjective and cardiovascular effects of marijuana. The current study was designed to clarify opioid-cannabinoid interactions by assessing how naltrexone shifts the dose-response function for marijuana-elicited effects in heavy marijuana smokers. For this within-subject, double-blind study, a marijuana smoking procedure was designed to characterize a dose-response relationship for marijuana's subjective and cardiovascular effects under blinded conditions.
