the Effect of High Caloric Oral Nutritional Supplements on Growth and Development of Malnourished Children

EHCONSGDMC
Start date: June 30, 2023
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The goal of this clinical trial is to investigate the effect of high caloric oral nutritional supplements on body proportion, weight, linear growth pattern, neuropsychological development level and related health aspects (gut health, immune function, quality of life, etc.) in participants aged 1 to 3 years who are malnourished (underweight and wasting),as well as to evaluate the safety of applying high caloric oral nutritional supplements. Participants will receive nutritional education and daily high caloric oral nutritional supplements(experimental group),or will receive nutritional education and dietary instruction(control group). This study may provide data to support the development of clinical intervention strategies for malnourished Chinese children.

NCT ID: NCT05379712 Not yet recruiting - Undernutrition Clinical Trials

Nutritional Supplementation in Head and Neck Cancers

Start date: July 2024
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to determine whether multimodal nutrition therapy (primary nutrition intervention + adjuvant nutrition therapy) will support patients to optimize their total caloric intake during cancer treatment by measuring the difference in mean cumulative energy intake between the intervention and control group over the duration of cancer treatment.

NCT ID: NCT04798807 Completed - Malnourishment Clinical Trials

Screening Nutritional Status of Hospitalized Patients

Start date: January 1, 2016
Phase:
Study type: Observational

This study investigated the results of the nutritional status of hospitalized patients with Nutritional Risk Screening 2002 (NRS-2002) and Subjective Global Assessment (SGA) screening and compared the effects of two screening method in predicting malnutrition.

NCT ID: NCT04092517 Completed - Malnourishment Clinical Trials

MORINGA; Delivering Nutrition and Economic Value to the People of Malawi

Start date: September 13, 2018
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Lack of adequate nutrition is the single biggest contributor to child mortality. Malawi is amongst the countries most affected. In global feeding programmes several variations of fortified blended foods are used and imported into the country of need as supplementary foods. However, the accessibility and efficacy of supplementary feeding is variable and can be a limiting factor for success in preventing and treating malnutrition. Therefore, in countries with widespread hunger, an increasing demand exists for innovative strategies offering alternative solutions for year-round access to commonly consumed home-grown products with good nutritional value. Moringa Oleifera - described as 'a nutritional and medicinal cornucopia' is common throughout in Malawi. Moringa leaves can be repeatedly cropped and are rich source of nutrients and non-nutrient bioactive compounds. These nutritional characteristics give Moringa the potential to significantly contribute in Malawi's battle against malnutrition and mineral element deficiencies. The aim of this study is to compare Moringa as a substitute in specially formulated supplementary foods in order to evaluate the in vivo bioavailability of key nutrients and bioactives and biological activities of the plant. This would assess the potential for establishing Moringa oleifera as an economically viable crop which could contribute towards establishing a resilient food supply chain in Malawi that will deliver essential nutrients across the population.

NCT ID: NCT01552291 Completed - Clinical trials for Gastrointestinal Tumors

The Impact of Preoperative Oral Glutamine Intake on the Immunocompetence and Outcomes of Malnourished Patients Undergoing Major Abdominal Surgery Due to Malignancies

Glutaminprojec
Start date: May 2012
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

Malnutrition occurs in up to 50% of patients requiring elective surgery for neoplastic diseases. It exerts a detrimental influence on outcome of surgery, because it can suppress immune function, exaggerate stress response and cause organ system dysfunction. Increased susceptibility to infection, protracted wound healing, impaired blood clotting and vessel wall fragility have been shown to be the leading causes of postoperative morbidity and mortality in malnourished patients undergoing major surgical resections. This trial is designed as a prospective randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled pilot study in a academic single center in Switzerland. A total of 50 malnourished patients with gastro-intestinal tumors will receive orally glutamine or placebo-treatment during a period of 5 days prior to surgery. The investigators hypothesize that oral Glutamine administration is feasible, well tolerated, will decrease postoperative morbidity, will suppress postoperative cell damage and inflammatory response, and will improve the perioperative immunocompetence of the patients.

NCT ID: NCT01199120 Completed - Malnourishment Clinical Trials

Cognitive Effects of Omega-3 Supplements in Children With Mild to Moderate Malnutrition

Start date: March 2009
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

Adequate nutrition is one of the critical biological processes to learning and cognitive development of children. And is understandable that malnourishment affect these processes. Moreover, in recent decades it has been investigated the beneficial effects of Omega-3 in cognitive development and academic performance. However, studies have been limited. Therefore is of interest to know the effects that has supplement with Omega-3 for children 8-12 years with malnutrition in a randomized, blind, placebo-controlled.
