Filter by:In this study, the investigators will study music therapy for patients during breathing trials, a procedure performed in intensive care units. Participants will be assigned either to standard medical care or standard medical care plus music therapy. Participants have a 50/50 chance (like flipping a coin) of being in either group. In the music therapy group, a board-certified music therapist will sing softly with guitar accompaniment to provide music during the breathing trial. The music is in addition to the usual treatment provided by hospital staff. Participants in the standard medical care group will receive the usual medical care given by hospital staff members. Information will be collected from participant's charts and by observation of vital signs during the breathing trial.
The purpose of this study is to compare the effectiveness of two novel videolaryngoscope systems, the Glidescope and the Truview PCD against standard direct laryngoscopy (DL) in pediatric patients. The investigators primary hypothesis is that the use of videolaryngoscope devices, Glidescope and Truview provide better laryngeal views in pediatric patients as measured by Cormack and ehane (C&L) (1 to 4, 4 the worst), without increasing the time taken to intubate (TTI), compared with direct laryngoscopy (DL). The investigators secondary hypotheses are that the use of Glidescope and Truview PCD provoke less hemodynamic response and fewer episodes of de-saturation in pediatric patients.
The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of the Fastrach and the CTrach Laryngeal mask airway to achieve placement of a breathing tube in the windpipe of patients where this may be difficult.
