Phase 3 Pivotal Trial of NanoFlu™ in Older Adults

A Phase 3, randomized, observer-blinded, active-controlled trial to evaluate the immunogenicity and safety of a recombinant quadrivalent nanoparticle influenza vaccine with Matrix-M1 adjuvant (NanoFlu) compared with a licensed quadrivalent inactivated influenza vaccine in adults ≥ 65 years of age. Both vaccines were formulated with the 4 influenza strains recommended for the 2019-20 Northern hemisphere influenza season. 2654 subjects were enrolled and randomized into 1 of 2 treatment groups to receive either NanoFlu or active comparator. Subjects were followed for approximately 1 year following injection; with primary immunogenicity analyses based on Day 28 sera. This trial was conducted in the United States at approximately 19 clinical sites.

Intranasal live attenuated influenza vaccine (LAIV; trade name FluMist/Fluenz-Tetra, manufactured by AstraZeneca/Medimmune) is the standard influenza vaccine given to children aged 2-17 years of age in the UK. It is also licensed to be given to adults up to the age of 49 years in the USA. The systems biology of the human blood response to influenza vaccines has been studied in great detail, but there is a paramount need to study innate and specific, soluble and cellular immune responses at the nasal mucosal site of influenza infection. In this way this study aims to determine correlates of efficacy and vaccine take in serum and nasal mucosal lining fluid (MLF).

Patient Portal Reminder/Recall for Influenza Vaccination in a Health System- RCT 2

This trial is taking place in Los Angeles, CA among patients from primary care practices within the UCLA Health System. Despite the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommendation in 2010 that all people above 6 months of age should receive an annual flu vaccine, vaccination rates remain low. The investigators will assess the effectiveness of message-framing (gain-framed, loss-framed messages, no messages), as well as the effectiveness of a pre-commitment prompt (pre-commitment prompt, no prompt) asking about a patient's intention to get the influenza vaccination, using a 3 x 2 factorial design.

Clinical and Prognostic Comparisons Between Invasive Pulmonary Aspergillosis With or Without Invasive Tracheobronchitis During Severe Influenza: a Retrospective Multicenter Cohort Study.

Invasive tracheobronchial aspergillosis (ITBA) is an uncommon, but severe clinical form of Invasive Pulmonary Aspergillosis (IPA) in which the fungal infection is entirely or predominantly confined to the tracheobronchial tree. In view of the limited data concerning critically ill patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) with severe influenza associated with ITBA, the investigators decided to evaluate the differences between the clinical presentations of two invasive infections: ITBA and IPA without tracheobronchial involvement (No ITBA).
