Filter by:In patients with inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), characterized by relapsing intestinal inflammation, chronic fatigue is a burdensome and highly prevalent symptom. The aetiology is thought to be multifactorial, including complex interactions of psychological and physical factors such as immunological profiles and gut microbiota. Unfortunately, specific treatment strategies are currently lacking. Since fatigued patients have an impaired physical fitness and are less physically active than patients without fatigue, it is hypothesised that physical exercise might be an effective complementary treatment for patients with IBD suffering from fatigue. During a previous pilot cohort study, significant improvements in fatigue complaints and quality of life were observed following a personalised and intensive exercise program. In this study, a multicenter randomized controlled trial will be performed to further investigate this assumed beneficial effect of intensive physical exercise.
A study of clinical characteristics and potential prognostic factors in inflammatory bowel disease
This study aims to test the feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary efficacy of a comprehensive self-management (CSM) intervention for people with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The CSM-IBD intervention is an adaption of the CSM intervention initially developed for individuals with irritable bowel syndrome. The intervention has eight sessions which cover an introduction to IBD, symptom tracking, cognitive behavioral strategies, relaxation, sleep, diet, and pain management.

Background There are no prospective trials comparing the two main reconstructive options after colectomy for Ulcerative colitis, ileal pouch anal anastomosis and ileorectal anastomosis. An attempt on a randomized controlled trial has been made but after receiving standardized information patients insisted on choosing operation themselves. Methods Adult Ulcerative colitis patients subjected to colectomy eligible for both ileal pouch anastomosis and ileorectal anastomosis are asked to participate and after receiving standardized information the get to choose reconstructive method. Patients not declining reconstruction or not considered eligible for both methods will be followed as controls. The CRUISE study is a prospective, non-randomized, multi-center, controlled trial on satisfaction, QoL, function, and complications between ileal pouch anal anastomosis and ileorectal anastomosis. Discussion Reconstruction after colectomy is a morbidity-associated as well as a resource-intensive activity with the sole purpose of enhancing function, Quality of Life and patient satisfaction. The aim of this study is to provide the best possible information on the risks and benefits of each reconstructive treatment.
The primary reason of this study is to observe current and past treatment in adult participants receiving Vedolizumab, intravenous (IV) or subcutaneous (SC), for IBD in Brazil. There is no treatment involved in this study, this is only an observational review of past and ongoing treatment data relating to Vedolizumab treatment for IBD (including Ulcerative Colitis [UC] and Crohn's Disease [CD]).
In this research project, the investigators want to find out whether the additional intake of vitamin D further reduces the inflammatory events in the intestines of IBD patients. There are three groups of subjects: the 1st group takes a capsule of 24,000 IU per week, the 2nd group takes 24,000 IU per month, the 3rd group is the control group. The intake extends over 6 months during the autumn and winter period.
