Filter by:Idiopathic macular hole (IMH) is a fundus disease without clear etiology, most often seen in healthy women over 50 years of age, and is often associated with ocular manifestations such as loss of central vision and visual distortion. It is often associated with loss of central vision, visual distortion, and other ocular manifestations. It is currently treated by vitrectomy combined with internal limiting membranes (ILM) peeling followed by gas filling. A strict prone position for a certain period of time after surgery has a positive effect on the healing of the macular fissure. The need for a strict prone position after IMH has been demonstrated in previous studies (especially when the IMH diameter is >400 μm). However, due to the anti-human mechanics of the face-down position, patient comfort, sleep quality and quality of life are greatly compromised. Therefore, this study designed a smart head position monitoring device to assist patients in maintaining the correct position and recording the effective position time. The study was conducted to determine the shortest prone position time based on macular fissure closure, to minimize the adverse effects of postoperative position, and to obtain the maximum recovery of visual acuity and visual field.

Retrospective medical chart review of patients undergoing surgical repair of idiopathic macular hole
A macular hole is a rupture in the macula. In terms of pathogenesis, as much as 80% are idiopathic (Idiopathic Macular Hole, IMH). The normal incidence of this condition is about 0.17%; however, there is a 10-29% chance of development of a macular hole in the fellow eye of patients suffering from unilateral macular hole. Our hypothesis is that embedded in the topography of the retina is information that can allow for discrimination between healthy eyes and eyes with an increased risk of developing IMH. As such, our work aims to develop a system that allows the automatic identification of these eyes.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the role of cataract surgery and cystoid macular edema (CME) on reopening of idiopathic macular holes (IMH).
To evaluate the anatomical and visual outcomes after vitrectomy and internal limiting membrane (ILM) peeling with indocyanine green (ICG) or trypan blue (TB) for idiopathic macular hole repair in a prospective randomized trial.
The project is a randomized clinical trial with a follow up time of 12 months comparing the effects of surgical treatment of idiopathic macular holes. Patients are randomized to vitrectomy alone, vitrectomy plus indocyanine green (ICG) assisted inner limiting membrane ( ILM) peeling or vitrectomy plus trypan blue (tb) assisted ILM peeling. At baseline patients are characterized using early treatment diabetic retinopathy study (ETDRS) visual charts, tests of aniseikonia, optical coherence tomography 3 (OCT3), visual field and fundus photography. Per- and postoperative complications are registered. Data analyses will help clarify the effect of ILM peeling on hole closure and visual acuity. Comparing results after ICG- and tb assisted ILM peeling will help clarify the topic of a toxic effect on retinal cells after staining and peeling of the ILM. Changes in intraretinal morphology before and after dye-assisted ILM peeling will be studied using OCT3 imaging and the patients' subjective opinion on the surgical results will be analyzed using quality of life questionnaires and metamorphopsia tests.
