He-move-philia, Lifestyle Intervention for Patients With Hemophilia

The main objectives are reduction of body weight, BMI and abdominal circumference. Secondary objectives are reduction of bleeds and units coagulation factor concentrate used, blood-pressure, cholesterol spectrum, glucose and improvement of physical activity and dietary habits. one group of patients will receive a combined lifestyle intervention program with individual sessions and group sessions lasting for 2 years, the other group of patients will receive individual sessions only and will be given the same information as given in the group sessions, but on paper.

Gaining Insight Into the Complexity of Pain in Patients With Haemophilia

Joint pain has been reported as a major problem in people with haemophilia (PwH). Therefore, haemophilia in adults seems clinically more related to a musculoskeletal disorder than a bleeding disorder, with many patients reporting a pain intensity exceeding 6/10 on a visual analogue scale. However, although the complexity of joint pain has been studied in chronic joint pain conditions such as low back pain, osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis, until present only very limited research has been done on joint pain within PwH. Therefore, exploring the underlying mechanisms and the functional implications of this intense joint pain is urgently needed. As such, the main aim of the current prospective observational study is to gain more insights in joint pain in PwH enabling us to move towards adequate pain management in PwH.

Clinical, Functional and Musculoskeletal Differences Between Adult Patients With Hemophilia and Their Healthy Peers

Background. Hemophilia is characterized by the development of a progressive, degenerative, intra-articular lesion (hemophilic arthropathy). This arthropathy presents with chronic pain, limited range of motion, axial changes, and periarticular muscle atrophy. Goal. To analyze the clonic, functional and musculoskeletal differences between adult patients with hemophilic arthropathy of the knee and ankle and their healthy peers. Study design. Cases and controls study patients. 21 patients with hemophilia A and B and 21 subjects without joint damage. Variables and measuring instruments: pressure pain threshold (pressure algometer); joint status (Hemophilia Joint Health Score scale); and strength (dynamometry) and muscle activation (surface electromyography). Expected results. Observe the differences between patients with knee and ankle arthropathy and their healthy peers in muscle strength and activation.

A Trial That Evaluates Disease Characteristics in Hemophilia B Adult Male Participants Receiving Prophylaxis With Standard of Care Factor IX Protein (FIX) Replacement Therapy

This study is focused on males who have Hemophilia B and who need regular preventive treatment with factor IX protein (FIX) replacement therapy to prevent and also to control their bleeding events. The aim of the study is to gather at least 6 months of information on bleeding events for each individual participant while they continue to use their usual FIX replacement therapy. There is no experimental treatment being tested in this study. The study is informational, and part of a larger program to understand and treat Hemophilia B with a potential experimental new therapy in the future. There is no obligation to agree to taking part in this future study. The study is looking to answer several other research questions to help understand each participant's individual disease characteristics, including: - How often to use FIX replacement therapy, both on a regular basis (prophylaxis) and as needed to treat bleeding events - Measurement of FIX activity (factor IX is a clotting factor) by different laboratories using different types of tests in Hemophilia B participants - Possible complications from the FIX replacement therapy the patient receives (usual standard of care will continue to be used) - How quality of life is affected by Hemophilia B - How joint health is affected by Hemophilia B - How often the participant visits the emergency room, urgent care center, physician's office, hospital, or has a telemedicine visit as a result of bleeding events - Whether the body makes antibodies (a protein produced by the body's immune system) against the FIX replacement therapy you receive, which could make the drug less effective or could lead to side effects

Vitamin D Deficiency and Body Composition in the Patients With Hemophilia

Hemophilia is associated with osteoporosis and increased prevalence of low bone mineral density (BMD). Many clinical risk factors have been reported, such as hemophilic arthropathy, reduced physical activity, decreased sun exposure, hepatitis C virus infections, vitamin D deficiency, and low body mass index (BMI). There is no data on the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency and low BMD in hemophilia patients in Taiwan or Asia. To the best of our knowledge, no previous studies have reported the prevalence of sarcopenia and correlation with osteoporosis in hemophilia adult patients. The purpose of this study will evaluate the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency, low BMD, sarcopenia and body composition in a cohort of patients with hemophilia in Taiwan.
