Gingival Crevicular Fluid (GCF) Bactericidal Permeability Protein (BPI) and Interleukin (IL)-1 Beta

Objective: The aim of this study is to determine the amounts of BPI (Bactericidal permeability protein) and interleukin-1beta (IL-1β) in gingival fluid samples obtained from individuals with periodontally healthy and periodontal disease, to compare these amounts between study groups, and to evaluate their relationship with clinical parameters. In cases where clinical parameters increase, IL-1β amounts also increase significantly. The amount of IL-1β in individuals with periodontal disease is significantly higher compared to healthy individuals. There is positive correlation between BPI and clinical parameters. The amount of BPI in individuals with periodontal disease is significantly higher than in healthy individuals. More studies are needed to better understand the importance and therapeutic effect of BPI in periodontitis

Intermittent Vibrational Force During Orthodontic Treatment With Aligners

This three-arm cross-over randomized clinical trial (allocation ratio of 1:1:1) will aim to explore whether the application of intermittent vibratory forces modify RANKL and OPG concentrations in patients undergoing orthodontic treatment with clear aligners. The specific objective will be to compare gingival crevicular fluid concentrations of RANKL and OPG among groups according to the application or not of Acceledent® treatment at different time points and frequencies of aligner changes.

Neurogenic Inflammation in Peri-implant and Periodontal Diseases

Regulatory effects of some neuropeptides substance-P (SP), neurokinin-A (NKA), calcitonin gene-linked peptide (CGRP) and neuropeptide-Y (NPY) )on inflammatory responses in periodontal disease has been described; however, the impact of neuropeptide levels are not clearly defined in healthy and diseased peri-implant tissues.ın order to evaluate the situation, thirty-nine implants that have been loaded over the past 12 months and their symmetrically matching teeth were evaluated using a split-mouth study design. Clinical periodontal examinations included the Silness-Löe plaque index, Löe-Silness gingival index, bleeding on probing, probing pocket depth and clinical attachment level parameters were determined. Gingival crevicular fluid (GCF)/Periimplant sulcular fluid (PISF) samples were collected, and the levels of the neuropeptides were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Correlations between GCF/PISF neuropeptide levels and the clinical examination parameters were evaluated in the peri-implant/periodontal soft tissues.

In the present clinical study including chronic, aggressive periodontitis and healthy individuals, the investigators aimed to determine the RANKL, osteoprotegrin (OPG), Interleukin-1 (IL-1β), IL-10, IL-1β levels in gingival crevicular fluid(GCF) before and after surgical periodontal treatment and search out the relationship of clinical parameters with these cytokine levels.
