Randomized Controlled Trial of Internal Fixation Reconstruction With Stent Screw in the Treatment of Kummell's Disease

This study is a multicenter, prospective, double-blind, randomized controlled trial using a parallel two-arm design to investigate whether the postoperative 6-month quality of life, vertebral stability, complication of patients with osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures (Kummell's disease) are better with the use of stent screw internal fixation and percutaneous bone cement reconstruction technique compared to patients undergoing traditional percutaneous balloon kyphoplasty (BKP) for vertebral augmentation

Effect and Essentiality of Vertebroplasty Surgery in Acute Vertebral Compression Fractures

Percutaneous vertebroplasty is now a common procedures of patients with acute osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures in medical units all over China, but the efficacy and essentiality of the surgery remain uncertain and is the subject of this study. This is a multiple center open-label randomised trial. Patients were randomly allocated to percutaneous vertebroplasty or conservative treatment. Because of the procedure , neither patients nor investigators were blinded. The primary outcome was pain relief at 1 month and 1 year.

Percutaneous Vertebroplasty Versus Conservative Treatment in GIOPVCF

Based on the case reports and other literature, the investigators hypothesize that using PVP for treating GIOPVCF is associated with increased risk of vertebral refractures and does not provide further benefits compared to conservative treatments. The overall objective of this prospective cohort study is to compare the efficacy of PVP and conservative treatment for GIOPVCF. The evaluation of efficacy of therapy includes: 1) the incidence of vertebral refractures; 2) therapeutic effects (pain relief and health-related life quality) and 3) complications. The results from study will be written in English and disseminated widely through scholarly presentations, peer-reviewed publications, and other written communications.
